On knitted scarves from the underworld

I’ve finally been able to put a name to all my secret fears and nightmares. They’re called the “Brooke’s Columns of Leaves” scarf.
Cut for lots of grumbling )

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with the scarf, dearie. I haven't started it myself, yet--I'm working on other things right now--but it sucks when you have a pattern you struggle with.

On the bright side, if you get through it, you can do other patterns, and they won't give you the same amount of trouble since you've had this experience. So it's got a good side. :/

Yeah, that's the bright side... I'm learning a lot with this pattern, from "never get distracted when you're following a complicated pattern, or you might skip something/do something twice"; "if you lose your place it isn't shameful to check your stitch count to figure out where you were"; "the yo isn't the same with purls as with stitches"; "if you finished a knit stitch, and the pattern calls for a yo before a purl, for goodness' sake, don't move the yarn forward!!" ...and the like ( ... )
