>>Everybody who is remotely interested in books is reading The Da Vinci Code and preventing me from picking it up.
Ah, tell me about it. I've had the Da Vinci Code lying around for six months and I can't seem to get past page three. Ditto with Harry Potter. No, it's not that I think they're childish - or I wouldn't be reading my well-worn Enid Blytons for the twentieth time in as many years.
I haven't read Dan Brown. Nor have I watched any Harry Potter, nor any Bollywood movie for a long time, nor do I know who the captain of the current Indian cricket team, etc. etc. ...
Oh, I am sure you are happy. It is just that we get so caught up in what other people are talking about that every once in a while we forget to enjoy what we like the best.
I was thinking about you today. I have missed your LJ presence, fellow book worm. :)
Da Vinci Code is one of the most hyped books that did not deserve to be a list topper at all. I'd rate it at 2.5 out of 5. Dan Brown is good writing suspense, but the book, overall, is extremely insipid. zbg97 will agree with me on this one.
True that. I remember feeling the same way about “God of Small Things.” I read it years after it first got published. Sometimes I feel that I would have liked it better if I had not read all those reviews and discussions about it.
