I'm going to be featured in the company newsletter because I'm an actor. They feature an employee every month and find out what they do when they're not at work. In an effort to more efficiently answer the inevitable questions that pour out of people when they find out I'm an actor, I'm going to prepare my responses to the most common inquiries.

Everytime some non-theatre person asks me if I design at the Guthrie, and I have to say "no", it makes me feel like a failure, for some reason. It's the one theatre they know!... and I haven't designed for it. I've dashed their hopes and dreams.

They just want to feel like they're in the know. If you've worked somewhere they've heard of they can nod knowingly, and if there's one thing people love it's nodding knowingly.

(Feel free to nod knowingly at this comment. It will make you feel better.)

Can I nod stupidly?

No, I guess that won't work because there's no alliteration.

Don't forget my favorite: "Do you know anyone famous?" At least you act and people know you're at the show they've come to see and when they want to take you to pie after the show you don't have to say 'uhhhh... well I have to wait for everyone else to leave and then clean and lock up...so it'll be like half an hour-- is that ok?' And then watch them walk away with an actor. PS- four fastest ships- rock on.
