Ibelin boards the first train that will take him to anywhere but here. It leaves him with very little money, but he's managed to survive before; he can do it again

The circus will leave the next morning, and without Ibelin here there is no reason for Mathieu to stay, either. His throat swells and itches with heavy emotion as he packs his things and delivers his key at the front desk, and begins to trek back to the circus grounds.
There is a show tonight, the last, grand one, and that means that the grounds are filled with people; Mathieu easily slips by unnoticed among the caravans in search of his old caravan. He wonders if Ginger has kept his space or turned it into something different yet. He leaves his things right inside the door, locks it back up with his old key, and quietly finds his way into the tent where the animals are kept.
(You'll still see your co-workers, though, since it's nearby :3 Is the pay the same back there? Actually, I figure that Mattie would wait until the circus was about to leave.)
Cecelia is brining her animals back after her part of the show when she spots the boy curled up against Ajax.
"Mattie?" she asks, surprised. "What are you doing here?"
{Yeah, but it's not quite the same. I think so, but honestly, nobody's sure. We have to talk to the people on payroll to figure it out. Okay, sounds good.}
Mathieu does not answer right away. He rubs at his face before he lifts his head and rises to his feet. "I wanted to see the animals," he mumbles as he comes over to help her, avoiding eye contact. He guides one of the chimeras over to the other side and gets a brush to take care of its fur. "Did everything go well?"
(True. It's one thing to have them within talking distance, and another to bump into them occasionally. Hmm, you definitely should. I like being sure of how much I earn, at least.)
"It went fine." She frowns, knowing that something must be wrong, but not wanting to push him. "Would you like to put them all to bed?" she asks instead.
{Yup. I know I earn ten dollars an hour up front and I don't see why that wouldn't transfer back to Juice Bar, but I don't know.}
