I've been thinking this for a while. Probably 6 months or more, but LJ has really put a magnifying glass on it for me. Let me preface this with a little background that I hope will make sense.
I want to thank you personally for broadening my horizons, too. I must admit that up until now I, too, have been very prejudiced. Against people who vote conservatively. I always thought that "those people" (you have to remember that I come from KS, one of the states with some pretty darned hateful conservatives in it; not an excuse, just my environment that 'taught' me this way) were awful, and not ones I could be friends with. Then I met you on BC, and liked you from word one. It wasn't until MUCH later that I found out your leanings, and for a bit, I had a hard time dealing with that mentally. How could this wonderful woman be a conservative? I thought about it for a while, and then smacked myself in the head: because she has thought about it, and while you share many of the same initial viewpoints, she sees it from a different angle than you do, and went a different direction based on the factors in your life. You (meaning me) say you can't stand conservatives because they're so closed minded, why don't you try BEING open minded

ohmyword, Robin. I totally can't see the computer right now for tears. Thank you for saying that and giving me the gift of your friendship. Today and every day.
You know what I think is so wonderful? It's that after reading what you wrote, I know that you didn't paint me with the same brushstroke as the other conservatives you know. Just the other day we were able to laugh -- cough coughRiptidecough cough, and it meant so much to me that you were able to see me without "the camp". That is truly one of my biggest fears when people find out I'm a *glances furtively around* conservative.
As Joey on Friends said about Joey Buttafuoco in reference to the name Joey, I say about the Kansas conservatives: they're ruining it for the rest of us! Sorry you live among the buttheads, sweetie. Thanks for not holding that against me :)
You know, I have many friends here and on BC that I have never met in real life, but there are a select few that I hold truly dear and feel like I've known my whole life. You are among those few, and I am thankful for you everyday. I don't paint you as all the conservatives around me, you're definitely right, and if all conservatives WERE like you, I think I wouldn't have too many issues with the party! Yeah, Kansas conservatives are pretty bad. Especially because they don't LISTEN to their constituents (you oughta see some of the letters I get back when I write to them, you would be appalled!). Another trait they most definitely do not share with you.
Thank you too, antof9. As a bit of a semi-hermit in real life at the moment, I really appreciate the people I've got to know online, and the different perspectives on life everyone brings. I may disagree with people on lots of issues, but it's far more valuable to me to hear the opinions of others than be surrounded by a whole load of me-clones.

I appreciate your honesty and fairness, even when we disagree.
