Trust me -- spending 20 minutes on this on a Saturday (or Sunday...) makes the rest of the week SO smooth! And I'm not just saying that :)
Candy Salad (everybody -- I mean everybody, loves this): It's good green lettuce -- greenleaf or butterleaf or romaine (even Spinach greens would work) craisins toasted pine nuts (I do them in the toaster oven and drizzle a teeny bit of a Lime Riesling Olive Oil on 'em, but it's not necessary) goat cheese (creamy and yummy) Maple Grove Farms maple fig dressing (carried in our normal grocery stores)
Ooh - this is a good idea. I've been doing something a bit similar myself for the last few days - not as organised as this, but just jotting down meals I think of on the 'sticky notes' application on my new laptop. They are like virtual post-it notes and I can put them all over my desktop, so I have one that I write ideas for meals on. For me, it's because I'm trying to have a wheat/gluten free diet, and also because I sometimes forget what groceries I've bought until they go rotten (if they're in a fridge drawer that I forget to check or something!) so it's making sure I eat all I buy.
Why don't you like having sugar snaps with your rice? I love sugar snaps - I have them with everything! Although I think I prefer them raw.
(And there was I thinking candy salad must be full of candy!) :-)
I do the grocery thing too. Sort of "oh, this sounds good" ... and then three months later, "what's this?"
Doing it menu first, shopping second works much better! I am spending a lot less and throwing away even less (I want to say more less!)
I love Sugar Snap Peas, but cold/raw is WAY better. They made this batch taste funny. I think I just realized they are better cold, and something that heats better is in this. I make this a lot, and pretty much always use peas and grated carrots, but the rest of the veggies are sort of whatever I have on hand. This time I thought I'd try the Sugar Snaps, and was disappointed to have wasted them this way. I mean, we still ate them, but ...
Sorry about the candy salad! Some of my girl friends started calling it that because it's so good :)
