A "Holiday" Conversation with Unk

Today, March 18, we got a St. Patrick's Day card from my mom.

She wrote something on the left side of the card:
I hope you are making shamrock cookies!

(why, and for whom? I've made cookies once in the 4? 5? years we've lived here, and it was for firemen who made sure I wasn't going to die. Why would I bake shamrock cookies on a Tuesday ( ( Read more... )

Maybe someone's been "drowning the shamrock". That's an old Irish expression for getting completely bladdered on Paddy's Day.

Wiki says the shamrock was once prized for its "medical properties". They smoked it too....?

LOL! Maybe. It's funny, because I've always been half Dutch and the other half was English, Irish and Romanian Jew. Those three things are from her side of the family, but she never made a big deal of them.

Now that she's re-married, she acts like she's all Irish. It's kinda funny, actually. I think it's more important to her because her new husband (of 5+ years) also has Irish heritage, so they act like the Paddy O'Malleys some times :)

You know you can grow shamrocks in pots ...
