LOL! Yes, that's really the sidewalk -- you can see where the neighbor next to him shovelled their portion.
I really WANT to put a note on his windshield, but then I think that's sort of cowardly. If it really bugs me enough to say something, I feel like I should say it to his face. And I don't have the nerve :)
Could you not (anonymously) call the police and have the jerk ticketed?jessibudJanuary 26 2007, 17:19:22 UTC
Here in Toronto (which gets a lot less snow than you do!!), I believe it is a by-law that everyone has to keep the sidewalks in front of their homes or places of business free from snow and ice.
I happen to love shovelling and, when we do get snow, I will often do my driveway as well as my neighbour's because the contractors our stupid condo has hired to take care of lawns in summer and snow in winter, are NEVER around early enough to clear driveways before I actually have to leave for work. But I digress.
There should be no reason for him NOT to be using the space he has, to park in. If he is supposedly *kayaking*, I don't suppose he has a disabled sticker on his car, which might exempt him from the strenuous sport of shovelling....?
Have you seen my recent LJ entry on my new word? Applies here, too, I believe... ;-)

I've seriously thought about it! Honestly, I think a lot of cities have that "you must shovel sidewalks" rule but don't really enforce it much. Clearly they haven't been enforcing it here, or it wouldn't have been on the news the other night. I got all excited when I saw that story :)
I like shovelling too, and when my friend A lived there, I sometimes helped her shovel that massive driveway.
I tried to give him every benefit of the doubt on the "maybe he has a bad back thing". But he actually shovelled around his van when it was in the location it is in this picture. I really do think he's just plain lazy. And I happen to know he's also a first-time homeowner (in his mid-40s) and I think he's just clueless and self-absorbed.

The family referred to in the "keeping up with" phrase had a daughter, Edith. After she married Mr. Wharton, she began writing. Ethan Frome is one of her more famous books.
i got a warning for not shoveling my sidewalk, as did most of the other people on my block. because the stuff on the sidewalk was all ice i had to resort to hot water and a steel rake to get it cleared.
i'm amused by the situation because the reason we all got notices is a man in a wheelchair at the end of the street complained. when i picked gage up from the bus stop that day, i noticed that the guy who complained ALSO got a notice... seems he only had the section of his sidewalk that he uses cleared and left the rest covered in snow. maybe i'm evil but all i could do was laugh and think "karma's a bitch!"
