You know something? As a Basic User, I don't just see sponsored comms that recieve priority over fancomms, or YouTube logos on embedded videos. I also have to put up with motherfucking Frank the Goat going on and on about how great Sponsored+ is. Everytime I post to my journal or update an entry's tags, I have to see it ( Read more... )

Point taken, but it's still annoying and more than a little unnecessary. See that little "Upgrade Account" option on the site menu? I could easily click on it and get a Sponsored+ account any time I wanted.

Except for the part where I totally don't want to.

The irony--or perhaps just the simple stupidity--of placing a rather ugly and unnecessary graphic+text box on the intermediate page after each update that essentially advertises advertisements prompted me to make this post. If it were possible, or even productive, to report LJ to it's own Abuse team for sending me unsolicited advertisements, I totally would. Sadly, this is not the case.

Basic users who want to use Horizon (for whatever reason) also get practically assaulted with that stupid yellow upgrade arrow. That's why I added how to kill it for AdBlock and AdBlock Plus.

Also, if you are willing to document all the pages/actions that end up giving you nags, I am willing to work on a GreaseMonkey that will kill as many of them as possible.

Other than the little yellow arrows (which, really, aren't that bad, as you can also use them to wrangle a paid account as they are just a button for the "Manage Payments" option), I've really only seen the Frank ads for Sponsored+ on the pages immediately following posting a new entry or editing an entry's tags. There's also an ad for Sponsored+ on the front page, but I would be a bit confused if it wasn't as that is the sort of thing to let potential users visiting LJ for the first time know about before/when they sign up. I will keep you posted, though, if I see any others ( ... )

I once found this page which asked me what ads I didn't want to see any more...but the "save" option was after each item. So I turned off the advertising for Sponsored+ account, whereupon it took me back to the homepage and I foolishly closed the window instead of pressing Back. Now Frank tells me about other features I don't want or need.

I used to like that goat...

I realize that this is a really old post, but I just had to say that if you have firefox, you can choose to never see those ads again by downloading the addon NoScript, or AdBlock. I have both of them, and I never see LJ's ads anymore.
