Hello. I know this is probably beating a dead horse, but I just finished Eldest last night and have to rant about it somewhere.

"7. The author needs to stop lifting names and words from Norse myth and legend, and from Old Norse in general. Earth languages and stories do not belong in a world that's not Earth. He also needs to stop ripping off Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings while he's at it. It bugs me ( ... )

Hoo boy. Good luck, anon. You're about to be eviscerated. That false equivalence at the end there is a gaping enough hole in your argument.

And yes, way to explain the monomyth there! The monomyth is a useful tool, not an excuse for being lazy in your story structuring and worldbuilding.

I think there are lots of non-European authors who'd disagree about the influence of European mythology on their works, for that matter.

This is just a start. just wait till the Epistler gets here.

Sorta working on a non-European fantasy novel here. It's about a non-human boy and his fox carrying out requests from the deity of cereals/blacksmithing, etc . Gee, that sounds a touch more generic than it did in my head.

It'll probably get rejected for using honorifics properly or whatever.

She destroys Eragon's picture of her. I'm an artist. I remember how upset I was when my brother scribbled on one of my drawings when we were little kids. If someone ruined one of my pictures today, I'd be furious.

I actually liked that scene a lot, possibly the most out of any scene in the series.

It's not like Eragon spent a lot of time creating something thoughtful and then she laughed in his face and smashed it. On a spur of the moment, he imprinted his lustful desires into an almost-dirty picture, which Arya saw, was upset by, and destroyed. Eragon is essentially her stalker, and him making a fairth of her without her permission and with imprinting all of his ooey-gooey teenage boy feelings into it is really disgusting. Arya's response, while not very nice, is not uncalled for, and for once Eragon has to deal with consequences for his actions (well, sort of). He did something stupid, and now Arya's upset at him.

Yeah, that makes sense. I just hate that bitch a lot. I think I hate her even more than Eragon. Impressive.
