people on here really annoy me.  who are you to say that the pro ana sites are bad have you ever been on them or used them?  they are a strong support system for people living with anorexia.  it is somewhere i know that someone will understand my tourmant and fear.  if you take the time to look at the sites properly you will find that there are ( Read more... )

Ah, the annual angry-ana post.
honey this community hardly moves anymore so don't worry. you pro-anas vastly, VASTLY outnumber us anti-anas here on LJ and basically in the rest of the world.

if you think surrounding an anorexic with images of skinny women is support, then fine. just go back to your cute little communities where they keep you from dying quickly but also keep you on your path to dying slowly, and the rest of us will try to forget the pro-ana cult exists.

there is so much more to the site than anorexic images. i personally don't like the images. it is the chat that is the important bit

well that's what therapy really should be for, because a bunch of other mentally ill people aren't going to be able to help you in the long run. however, if they've kept you from killing yourself, then it's a good thing. still, i have read PLENTY of eating disordered girls' statements saying that yes, the pro-ED community kept them sicker, longer.

So, good luck, but I hope you can understand why a handful of us here are horrified at what goes on in the pro-ana world. even your icon gives me the chills. what world do you live in that says bones are perfect beauty? cuz in my world that equals death.

i do understand why people have there concerns with the pro ana and i appologise for my original post. i just get angry when people say that they are all bad and don't see that it does 'help' in a way

agreed with ^ poster.

you are delusional if you think its "support." encouraging someone to have a disease that will lead to many health problems and even death is definitely the support i'd be looking for.

you aren't helping each other survive. if you were discouraging anorexia or getting actual help that will help them recover, THAT is support. and you are not doing that in an "proana" site.

believe me.. most of us have been to them/ know all about them. why else would we take the time to be in this community.

we are helping each other to live with the illness. i don't go on there telling people how to lose more weight and if you see the posts with pictures are we telling the person that they are fat- NO. yes we share how good the person looks good as that is the illness.
even where the person has done a post giving their stats, is there an comment like 'god you have got to lose weight'- NO or 'do this and you will get thinner- NO again
people without the illness just here the 'pro' bit in the name and make a judgement on that.
i have health care support worker who i have shown the site to and they have said that it is more support based than they had thought.
Living with an eating disorder is a very isolating thing and being able to share things with people that you know understand is a support.
i think that i have said enough and as the other reply said there are far more people using the ana site than us this one so that just shows which has most support

congrats! you win! you have more support to destroy yourself slowly for a beauty myth than there are supporters of...um...mental health and freedom from disordered eating and fucked up body image. yay?

is there an comment like 'god you have got to lose weight'- NO or 'do this and you will get thinner- NO again
But on the flip side, often people will say 'these are my stats, as you can see I need to lose x amount of weight but I keep doing z' and posters reply and say 'you're doing well don't get down about it but if you do x you will be able to stop doing z and lose weight'. real support would be replies which said 'you don't need to lose x, that's just the illness talking, what you need is to do z in order to defeat those thoughts.

You are believing the poorly reasoned propoganda of the sites and site members themselves if you believe that mutual support is intrinsically the same as useful, healthy support.

I agree with the other two posters.
I mean really honey, your idea of "support" is REALLY REALLY REALLY messed up. If you wanted support to get over your disease then you ould go to this community. This isn't even JUST for people who are against it, these are people who HAVE ALSO DEALT WITH ANOREXIA. Either way your "sickness" is a joke, but you'll be dying before you realize that.

ok fair play- i personnal don't want to recover from my illness and that is my choice but there are others out there in the same position as me and we share our feelings and worries with each other that is support!

actually, in some cases, that would be considered mass hysteria. If you put a bunch of people who are mentally ill in the same room with no guidance, they don't get better, in fact they start to develop the illnesses of those around them, exacerbating their own illnesses.

And on a completely non-related note, I just saw that you're also from Indy!

Most of the people in this community belonged to pro ana sites, many of us are recovering from ED's ourselves. WHO ARE YOU to come in here and attack us. We stay out of your playground.

This site is here to provide support if you want it so that you can avoid the negative things that can come from those sites and still receive the support you need. Thats the whole point.
