They share coffee, smiles, histories of violence. They never talk about the Island. She smells the jungle on him, even after months of hot water and rush hour traffic.
This triggers her escape.
And he follows. Airplanes don’t deter her: the beaches of Phuket in June (Jack’s been there), Moscow in December (I like the cold, she lies), even to Gibraltar (I want to be in two places at once).
In April, he finds her in the Champ de Mars, seated amongst a vast orchestra of marigolds and geraniums. The Eiffel Tower looms overhead, a disapproving conductor.
Done running? Sayid takes a seat.
