What I'm hearing is that humans got the edge mainly for being more social? I guess that makes sense.

Other anthropologists - sociobiologists mostly, research on bonobos - the articles are in deep file right now or i'd reference - have made the point about social / cooperation being the thing that pushed h. sapiens over neanderthals. (Nicer anthropologists, I might add. Adler's not a nice guy on site.)
