Very, very nicely done. Totally believable characterization and details, and the Kaga/Tsutsui is just wonderful. Thank you!

Kaga having an abusive family member makes a lot of sense, sadly. I wonder what happened to his mother at the end, though...?

It does, doesn't it? As far as his mother's concerned, I see two possible scenarios there. Her husband never went after her, not really, so she feels it's safe and she stays. Kaga tries to talk her into leaving but eventually gives up. They may or may not stop speaking because of it. Scenario number two is that she leaves around the time Kaga does, because she doesn't have to worry about trying to support a child by herself- and possibly Kaga leaving gives her the strength to do herself. I'll leave it up to you which one to believe. ^_^

Thanks you!

"...I'm not someone you can just mess around with."

This to me is why it could work. I utterly missed the possibility of Kaga & Tsutsui as a couple on my first reading: I was too busy being scared of Kaga!

What is it his father says in the series: "Be the best in the Go class or don't bother coming home." You can well imagine that there was a lot worse where that came from.

I think I saw it when I watched the anime- especially as time went on and Kaga revealed himself to be not as much of an asshole as he'd like everyone to believe- but I wasn't really that into it until I got into the fandom. I think between discussion and possibly fic, I was sold. ^_^;

Yeah, that flashback was part of my justification for why it could work- if the man acted like that in public, imagine what kind of a bastard he was at home! So yeah.

I'm so glad this worked for you. Thank you!
