Okay, maybe my RAEG against the Hermit is a little unfounded. It's a good card, but I hadn't put too much thought into what it really meant when I created/wrote Toru. Had I been paying attention and put more thought into the connection than "LOL HIKKIKOMORI=HERMIT," I'd have written a more appropriate character. As it stands, the shy ascended fanboy isn't exactly the best mentor type, nor is he good for making much introspective progress. It's an uphill battle, and I really do wish I could've either applied a character who was more suited to the role, or a character that I knew a damn thing about writing for.

That's definitely a positive way of looking at it. It would've sucked to finish up with the conflict and development for him too soon, so at least I've got plenty of material to work with.

I do wish I could really play him by ear and go with the flow, but it's a bit difficult to do, since the Hermit is one of those arcana that's more cooperative when you've got a plan. As it stands, everything is very uncertain, so I can hardly make anything that qualifies as a plan, even in the loosest sense.

*sigh* I can't give good advice because I'm in this boat with Kai. So, yeah, I'm having Hierophant RAEG right now because aaaggh stupid fucking meaning making Kai a reverse and therefore hard to write for and develop without it becoming unhealthy. And I realize how stupid I am for not making a better fitting character when I could have and just going with what I wanted, but alas.

Regardless, I think you have handled his character with skill thus far and you could continue to do so and develop him in a more Hermit-y direction. He's a great character, IMO, even if his arcana alignment is a little effed up. Of course, if you decide to drop him (which...wouldn't reccommend, but it's ultimately your descision) I would cry emo bitch tears because I love Toru, but I'll support you doing it if you think it'll work for you.

TL;DR: You can do this, Toru is awesome already, and I SO FEEL YA ON THE FRUSTRATION. :(

I think you'll manage, one way or another. Kai's a good character, and I'm totally excited for him to be part of the team. THOUGH I HAVE LITTLE TO NO EXPERIENCE WITH THE HIEROPHANT, I THINK YOU CAN GET KAI TO BE A GOOD FIT.

Thanks. I'm scared, since I don't have a good plan for the future anymore, but I'm thinking I don't want to drop him at this point. It'd fuck things up plotwise and make people sadsauce. Toru's a perfectly fine character... I just need to learn how to handle him better.

What a coincidence, I saw that place a while ago when I was looking for somewhere to RP. But I didn't join since there weren't that many people playing. But it's active? About how often do people post? There looks to be a gap from the 20th to earlier in the month. Or is it flocked?

There was a brief hiatus recently, since a lot of players were getting stressed out. Normally, we've got daily posting to a degree, an active plot, and a very lively OOC community. (If you like being RIDICULOUS in AIM chats, this may be the kind of place for you. We've got a ridiculous sense of humor, and are all quite friendly.)

But, uh. The spots for Persona-users are all currently filled, so you'd only be able to play an NPC if you joined now. It's fun, but it also means you can't go in dungeons or be involved in the overarching plot.

Writing directly from the arcana isn't exactly a bowl of udon either. You end up with metaconcepts that are supposed to show up in your game, but don't really, and not much of a character. Not that I'd know.

Actually, I was totally expecting the P3 hermit to be a hikkikomori instead of a teacher, because there are some gossipers who mention a hikkikomori right around the time when it opens up...

Anyway, Mads can potentially help. Potentially.

Ooof. Yeah, Toshimi hasn't been a walk in the park, has she?

But ultimately, a teacher makes more sense than a hikkikomori. Since she had both the isolation and the role as a mentor, rather than just the isolation. IDK, it makes sense to me.

...and then there's the fox, which barely counts as a social link. It's not like there's any development with the thing; the whole Hermit path is just complete filler.

I mean, you could just have him become a mentor to someone. In...otakudom. Or...I dunno, something. I think you could make it work. He already does serve as "protector of the noobs" online IIRC.
