"It's not everyday that one gets to hold a Viking sword," was what the curator (Dr. Jeffrey Forgeng) at the Higgins Armoury Museum said to me on Thursday afternoon before handing me the almost 1400-year-old blade.

Not a problem. The thing I found most interesting was the small space between the guard and pommel. My hand was touching both simultaneously.

Yes, he was truly hospitable. We hung out for a little bit afterwards and talked (amongst other things) about potential opportunities to lend support to the translation work being done.
