White-gloving at the Higgins

"It's not everyday that one gets to hold a Viking sword," was what the curator (Dr. Jeffrey Forgeng) at the Higgins Armoury Museum said to me on Thursday afternoon before handing me the almost 1400-year-old blade.

Yes, he was truly hospitable. We hung out for a little bit afterwards and talked (amongst other things) about potential opportunities to lend support to the translation work being done.

He used to be part of the Trayn'd Bandes - once he left his wife, he was awesome. Funny, relaxed, and very entertaining. I always get a little "squee!" when I see him on the History Channel (and other people, including my father).
