Cedric walked with her. He had taken to his walks himself, but when Marietta had quite... accidentally fallen into his life, he made sure to include her. For some reason, he had known she'd fancy them as much as he did. He was right. Lost in thought, he blinked and tried to focus on what she was saying. She was saying she liked the walks. Good.

Her next question took Cedric a little off guard. Luckily, she had strayed away from the questions of a heavy nature since coming. They had enjoyed their talks which wasn't heavy nor where they drastically light in nature either. They were the perfect in between. He had grown quite fond of Marietta in fact, and the fact she was leaving disappointed him. he was trying so hard not to show his true feelings on the subject that he almost welcomed the question about the town. "Oh puh, Cedric, you cook just as well as I could," she laughed, playfully thwapping his arm with a flick of her hand. "You're so modest. It's quite cute, really. But that sounds really nice. I saw a glimpse of these orchards when I (literally) stumbled into town that night, although I have yet to see them up close. It'll be a lovely thing to see before I leave. You know how they term it: one for the road, and all. I'll make a memory of this place to take with me ( ... )

Cedric chuckled. He was anything but modest. He decided not to correct her, because that would probably come off as modest too. "The orchards are nice," he commented easily. The mention of this town only being a memory saddened Cedric. He'd just be another memory. Another piece of time in someone's life that really, in the end, didn't matter ( ... )

At least he didn't say he was going to have to kill me if he told me, thought Marietta, whose morbid humour knew no bounds. She was considerably surprised when he suddenly took hold of her hand, and she sensed a hint of urgency in this unexpected act. She looked from their now joined hands to his face, her eyes narrowing slightly as she tried to decipher any emotions he might betray.

At first, Marietta tried to go along with it all by smiling a little in turn, although there was that tone of seriousness in his voice that she simply could not ignore. Furthermore, his mention of the illegal activities had her worried, not to mention interest the sleuth hound in her as well. That meant that not everything in this town is what it seems. More importantly, however, is Cedric's well-being, considering that he worked in the same mansion this Henry Weaver lived in.

"But, I suppose that in order to keep me coming back, you'll slowly disclose said activities to me, right?" she gently teased in reply, but then worried her lower lip at ( ... )
