wrapped up in books

I did my book shopping last night! Yay! Thank goodness I did, too, because I got home and my computer acted funky yet AGAIN, cutting me off from the delicious teat of the internet. Oh, how I can't wait for the brother to get his new computer so I can have his hand-me-down ... *yearns*

Anyway, yesterday swmbo and I were talking about the awesome advent ( Read more... )

YES -- they really DO seem more permanent, somehow. And I don't know why, but they seem more ... I don't know ... elegant is the only word that really fits there. They're prettier than mass-market paperbacks. It's like reading a hardcover book, but with much more portability and ease. Trade paperbacks are fucking AWESOME. :)

(omg tell me about it -- I have a mass-market paperback, a hardcover, AND a shiny new trade paperback of The Prince of Tides, because it is my favorite book EVER and I could not sacrifice my mass-market to the wastebin when it was full of highlighted sections and notes in the margins *g*)

I love trade paperbacks, only because I do 90% of my reading at the gym working out, and they're the perfect size for fitting in the book holders the gym provides :)

Dude!!! Which gym do YOU go to? Our little fitness center in the apartment complex offers no such book holders! But they do have cable, so I can at least go in there and watch The Simpsons while I exercise. ;)

It's a locally based franchise kinda deal... but while we get book holders, we get 5 TVs set on 3 channels... usually the ABC affiliate, ESPN, and FOX News :(

Seriously, WHY must every single restaurant/gym/establishment show FOX news all the time?!?! It. Drives. Me. CRAZY!

Well, I didn't even know there WAS a difference in paperbacks. I am slow and sad. Ah well. I like anything that's cheaper than a hardcover. Except e-books, because fic is enough. :P

I ticked 'Other' because I like to watch the films too. GOD BLESS BRANAGH'S HENRY V! That baby got me through my A Level.

HAHAHA I am so glad I am not the only one who passed their finals thanks to Kenneth Branagh. I love that man forever for helping me pass my Shakespeare semester in high school. ;)

Dude, if it wasn't for him, my coursework would've sucked. All my imagination was spent trying to bring Birdsong to life - I needed someone else to do the job for me for Henry V.

Mass market paperbacks are cheaper, and fit easier in bags, and take up both less space in carryons, and less weight in suitcases. And when you're going away for a year and taking a lot of books, believe me, those extra pounds count.

<3333333333 mass market paperbacks.

This is all VERY VERY true -- mass-market paperbacks definitely have their uses, which is why, even as I move to replace my books with trade paperbacks, I'm still keeping the old editions. Because dammit, you HAVE to have a mass-market when you go to the beach. YES. It is like a rule or something. ;)

I loathe E-books. I like having something solid in my hands when I read. :)

I totally feel you on that. I actually have a LOT of e-books on my computer, and I always use them to test out new books before I buy them, but when it comes to REALLY sitting down and reading? I need a book in my hands. Otherwise, I feel like I'm reading fanfic or something. Plus, there's something to be said for the smell. Giles is so right on that. ;)

But but but if you have a PDA than you can load it on that and lay in bed and read IN THE DARK!

And it is having something in your hands.

DUDE! Can you really?!?! Because I have, like, TONS of e-books and I'd love to figure out how to get some of them on my BlackBerry, just to see how it works. *g*
