Ficamnesty: 'The Raggedy Edge' Prequel Snippets

Sep 17, 2009 10:46

When I started writing ' The Raggedy Edge', I knew that as a crossover, the story had to start with Sam and Jack meeting the Serenity crew, but I also knew I had to have at least an idea how Sam and Jack got to that point, where they were in terms of the rescue, their relationship, and their mindset. So I spent some time plotting out the time ( Read more... )

Oh my damn, I'm loving you right now...in a completely creepless way, of course ;).

Still working my way thru Raggedy Edge and YES! even more to add! I'm so excited!

Thanks (to trout, too), for sharing the extras.

Haha. I guess my brain is far too well trained to the habit of filling in the background shippy events. Just happens without thinking! ;)

He wondered if he looked fragile to her too.

Oh this line just grabbed me.

I really enjoyed these shorts, especially the second and fourth ones - something that always gets brushed under the rug in both fic and the show. I've always wondered at what point Sam would have decided to give up her ideal of the 'normal life', what would cause her to stop pushing off that decision and commit, one way or the other. I think that that's an important part of her character, showing how far she's willing to go for her belief and her commitment to her team, and I like the angle you approach it from. I'd almost like to see her discussion with Thor on the subject. (because, you've got to feel for the little grey fellow here *g*)

It's an interesting question, whether or not Sam still sees the white picket fence thing in her future. One could argue that breaking up with Pete was sort of her acceptance that it just wasn't in the cards for her (or, as I might like to argue, that she finally stopped holding on to some fantasy that just would never fit in her life, and that there really was nothing wrong with that). Of course, for me, I sorta think the fact that she took the Atlantis job (which, yes, I know has more to do with actor contracts than a conscious decision about Sam's character development), but taking that job signals to me that she's let go of that 'normal life' fantasy. It would be interesting to see Sam talk to Thor about that sort of thing because it's not like he understands anything of the sacrifice and consuming nature of being a parent. And now I have rambled on this tangent probably more than you wanted to hear. Lol. Sorry! :D

Lol, no worries, it's actually an idea I've been kicking around for a while, because we rarely get to see characters, female ones at that, have that kind of growth and depth over time.
I agree, the whole Pete thing was such a turning point for her, and really she could have gone either way because it was essentially the point where SG1 was starting to drift apart, but she made the decision to do what makes her happy, and not try to please everyone else and live up to their expectations. It's just nice to be shown a woman having the power to make that choice, you know? :)

Oh I freakin' adored that!

This was probably my favorite comment, and so very Jack. . . - really beginning to hate his stupid mind and its need to ask all these practical questions when the rest of him just wanted to run around in excited circles.-

And then the sex talk with Thor! Bwahaha! Will we ever get to see if he spoke with Sam about it when she woke up?

The sex born of fear and desperation was just perfect in that setting that you'd built for them.

I hope you continue stories in this AU! (after DC and Wreckage! LOL)

*ducks heavy objects thrown my way*

Ha, yes, the conversation between Thor and Sam would be interesting, particularly because Sam isn't dumb. She knows why Jack even asked if she could be "fixed". He wants her to have an out, which is just sad. (You're good for her, Jack! Just deal with it!) Lol.

No more plans in this 'verse. Really. Nope. Not me.

Really.
