NaBloPoMo #3: Election Day minus One and Monday Miscellany

Nov 03, 2008 11:39

1. Less than 24 hours until the polls open. I've already voted but dayum, I'm trying not to sweat bullets. I must adopt the Zen attitude of the guy I voted for last week: "We've done all we can do." Well, I know I could have done more, besides voting for him and giving a total of maybe $100 spread out in $20-$25 chunks over several months, but ( Read more... )

When I was 8 years old, my grandfather died of a massive heart attack while he was bending over to check the status on the roasting chicken in the oven one Sunday.

His favorite meal, on his favorite day. :)

He was doing something that made him happy, so in that way he was lucky. *hugs*

Honestly, I know it sucks to wait in line to vote, but really? 2-3 hours or even 6 hours is nothing compared to how long some of our ancestors had to wait for their voices to be heard. And the fact that we even HAVE the privilege to vote is just one more thing to love about this country.

I vote tomorrow in MD where the lines are bound to be LOOOOOONG and the crowds large. I get 1 hour off of work to vote, so I'm planning to go when the polls open and will try to get to work by 10. However, if I can't, I'll just stay late to make up for it. I'm hoping to GET THE HELL OUT OF THE CITY as early as possible tomorrow so I can go home and watch election results in the comfort of my own pajamas. :P

I heard on the radio this morning that ONE-THIRD of registered voters in Wisconsin have voted already!! And that was with long lines in many locations for the last 2 weeks. I can't imagine how crowded it will be today - but we're going to have astonishingly good weather. I think it's going to be *gasp* 70 degrees. It is NEVER 70 degrees in Wisconsin in early November. Maybe this is a good omen? :D

I'm getting up early to vote tomorrow but I'm still debating whether or not to try to head to one of the local viewing parties. My brother said he was going to try to make it down to Grant Park tomorrow night, which should be awesome.

Grant Park!! I wish I could be there. That's going to be pretty brilliant, IMO. Vote! Have fun tonight!

I was very sad to read about the dwindling axolotl population. There's a short story by the surrealist writer Julio Cortázar titled "Axolotl" that made a big impression on me when I was in undergrad.
