1. Tonight I was at Barnes & Noble, picking up DD and her friend AH, who had spent a couple hours at the mall. I found THE AMBER SPYGLASS by Philip Pullman and went to purchase it. Conversation that followed ( Read more... )

One of my favorite scenes was when Mulder and Scully were at Quantico

I'm going to be my old XF nit picker and say I think that was the Hoover Building which is in DC and not at Quantico. If it is at Quantico, I got a lot of fan fiction wrong. :)

I enjoyed it for just Mulder and Scully, too.

You're probably right that the scene was at the Hoover Building. *hangs head* I know there was at least one scene at Quantico...

Just Mulder and Scully made it worth seeing. I suspect most of the small audience were X-Philes.

any excuse to use her CPT Jack icon!! *salutes*

I did love the moment when the Daleks shot Jack and he played dead; I'd almost forgotten that Captain Jack cannot die. Right?

Right, Jack is immortal, thanks to Rose... And you have no idea how tickled I was when the Doctor looked back and Jack winked at him. I might have squeed out loud. :D

...I ♥ Jack Harkness. [and Ianto, and Gwen... "if I'm going out, I'm going out like Tosh." *cries* Damned Torchwood...]

Overall, I thought the whole thing was rather too convenient overall, and now what are they gonna do for archenemies? The Daleks are all destroyed (supposedly), and the Cybermen as well? ORLY? Sheesh.

And altho Donna wasn't really my favorite companion (*points @ icon, lol*), I felt absolutely HORRIBLE for her at the end... never knowing and never able to know that she is and was so much more...

Well, yeah, the setup was too convenient. But it was nice to see all those characters again *is easy*

Donna grew on me; I actually liked that she never understood that she didn't have to be brilliant to be special. I thought they did an excellent job of showing Donna's importance to the Doctor in TURN LEFT. Now that I'm reading Pullman, I'm paying more attention to the concept of "If I choose A instead of B, everything related to B goes away forever, at least in my own little universe."

K9 is too cute. And so obedient. And NOT messy! :P

I don't read books with Vampires or werewolves. Someone at Borders yesterday recommended an author and when I looked at the book it was about both. I have had some authors I liked start to write about them and i quit buying their books.

I have the 3 Pullman books but haven't read them yet. We watched The Golden Compass last night so I think I will move them up on the 'to be read pile."

We are going to have to get a new TV sometime in the next year. I want to wait as long as possible for the prices to go down on the HGTV ones

The only werewolf I've ever liked was Professor Lupin in Harry Potter (and I actually hated the way JKR dealt with him in the end. Don't get me started.)

I started The Golden Compass maybe 2 years ago, because some of my HP friends had raved about it. It apparently made a big impression on me, because I lost it, inside my house, for many months - then suddenly found it again and was able to pick up where I'd left off without rereading! I already had The Subtle Knife so I sped through that immediately afterward. Was afraid I was going to have to order Amber Spyglass online because I was having trouble finding it locally, then I saw it last night and snapped it up.

We are definitely going to have to get a new TV in the next year. We have 3 TVs and the newest is from maybe 1992? And it ain't that good any more.

Re: dude at the store & Breaking Dawn - he obviously does not know good literature. Don't trust his opinions on anything. DO NOT BUY THAT BOOK. DO NOT READ IT. DON'T READ ANYTHING BY SMEYER and DO NOT LET MAYA READ THEM. Honestly, the main character, in addition to being the biggest Mary Sue ever, is also a complete doormat who marries an abusive, manipulative man and doesn't see anything wrong with it. Uhm, yeah. It's crap. Just don't.

I've been hearing disturbing stuff about Breaking Dawn through my flist. As I have never read any of the books, I didn't feel compelled to avoid spoilers. Also, cleolinda (who is a friend of friends, if I ever read my "friend's friends" list, which I don't) apparently has summarized/reviewed the books for those of us out of the loop. Might have to go read that just to know what I would be in for. Someone on MY flist (maybe minisinoo) said that SMeyer's big problem with the series was that she apparently had no plan for the books beyond the first one, so she didn't really know where she was going with them. I think if you're writing something that (your editor says) has the potential to be Really Big and Demand Sequels, you have to have some idea of where the sequels might go even while making Book 1 self-contained. If that makes any sense.

Alas, my arm doesn't feel stretchy at all. Only somewhat rubbery.
