mjryan - have you seen these icons ? :D

Gaunts, H. Smith, Muggle prime minister cut from HBP. Well, hey, let's get rid of Tom Riddle's motivation. Hell, we all know he was just plain Born Evil. Gah... I'd be worried about this screen play if I actually cared :P

ETA 8:40 a.m. My mood theme's eyes are opening and closing in time to Santana's EVIL WAYS.

both links go to the icons :(

I'm sure Hermione and Dumbledore will have some marvelous monologues to explain everything.

Ah, sorry, here's the correct link: http://www.veritaserum.com/article.php?aid=22667

But of course! Well, assuming Harry actually goes into the Pensieve with Dumbledore (I'm not counting on that yet), DD can Explain All. And Hermione can do research. And... whatever :P

I think cutting any of the Gaunts would've been stupid, but cutting Merope? WTF? It's just not going to have the same impact if we hear about her, and don't see her. I actually enjoyed the Riddle storyline in HBP... and they're cutting it back, probably to make more room for Hormonal Hijinks. Oh, yay.

Just so long as they don't eff up Luna at Slughorn's party, that's the last thing left I really care about.

I echo your concerns, Megan. If they're cutting out the Gaunts, what will be left for penseive memories? And honestly, the penseive trips were the only interesting thing for the first 2/3 of the book.

Unfortunately, this means that Harry and Ginny's grand t00by love will be a big focus of the movie, rather than the paragraph we got in the book. *pouts*

I hope so too, but I won't hold my breath. Now that they know Ginny is Mrs. Potter to be, they'll probably have him take her. ICK.

I know they're keeping the orphanage, because they've evidently made a huge deal out of designing/pimping that set - but showing that and not showing any of the other Pensieve memories? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Now that they know Ginny is Mrs. Potter to be, they'll probably have him take her. ICK.

*shudder* With as much as WB seems to love Evanna, I'll cross my fingers that that potential frontier of stupidity will remain unbreached.

That... doesn't make any sense at all. But then, what do I know? I'm delusional. I guess they just want to show young Tom as a sociopath but not show his parents? *bah* I firmly believe they cut casting whenever and wherever they can. Thus not casting young Lily or the Longbottoms for OotP (although they were in the picture) and not casting the Gaunts and the others for HBP. Bah, humbug. I try not to care too much. My canon ends at OotP anyway.

I'll cross my fingers for you, too. After all, it's not like Dan and Bonnie have much chemistry. He and Evanna do, and of course he and Emma do. Emma and Rupert? Not so much.

Okay. Train wreck waiting to happen if they're going to cut out every little bit of HBP that moved the plot forward. I'm rather glad I've already decided I'm not going to see it.

I'll probably go see it, but I might wait till it shows at the $2.50 second-run cinema :P

I won't even pay to see it. I'll probably do it the illegal way and wait for it on torrent. '-_-

After they cut the entire elf storyline from No.4, I was more than a little miffed. I understood why they cut a lot because it just wouldn't fit into the time allotted. Ok, fine. I get that. I even accepted it.

But, SERIOUSLY, without Merope, Voldemort has no real motivation. It changes the entire social commentary Rowling has going in her books. Basically, it changes "evil" from a nurture-based to nature-based condition. I don't like it.

I'll still watch the movie, but ... my hopes are officially shot.

P.S. When I recently found out that Anna Friel was up for the role of Tonks and didn't get it, it made me really sad because OMG she's awesome and she's also David Thewlis' sweetheart in real life and that's too freaking cute for words. <3<3<3

I would have liked Anna Friel as Tonks too:) (She's Chuck in Pushing Daisies, right?) I think she might have been pregnant when they were casting for Tonks, or maybe WB just liked Natalia Tena more (maybe Anna is too pretty?). At any rate...as someone said in earlier comments, Dumbledore and Hermione will have to dump a ton of info on Harry in dialogue if there's no scene with Merope. Gah, I'm about to give up on the screen adaptations anyway. I thought Michael Goldenberg did a good job capturing JKR's dialogue but other than that, he missed the boat on a lot of things I thought were important in OotP. Whatever. I'm a fanon girl now anyway :)
