Re: Chiquetabbac - I wonder if they were going with "Chewing tobacco" as the etymology for "Chewbacca"? Tabac being French for tobacco.

Granted, I don't know where the Chique bit would come from in that.

Yeah, I was wondering about that same etymology! And a quick check of my online French-English dictionary of choice does indeed report that "chiquer" means "to chew", and it can in fact be used in the sense of chewing tobacco.

So I'd say that's a pretty strong argument in favor.
