Man, Yuletide nominations not being open yet is making me so antsy. What are you guys going to request/offer? I reread Wuthering Heights lately and I REALLY want really dark, fucked-up fic, because omg that book has some distressing sexual subtext, but I am wary of asking for anything from a stranger that requires archaic language and/or explicit ( Read more... )

Yessssssssss, you should totally jump on that train! They totally make so much sense as a threesome, and April is totally used to having two boyfriends, it only makes sense!

Ahahahaha, Cullen-y person. Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Though I'm glad the show hasn't had too much mooning around! Good thing Leslie keeps busy doing things like taking kids on the most awesome camping trip ever.

WUTHERING HEIGHTS FIC WOULD BE AWESOME. I wonder if one of these years I will ever actually get on the Yuletide train ... ? Deadlines frighten me way too much to participate, but man, it is such a happy fandom time of year. Anyway: rec Leslie/Ron, do it, do it! The world needs more fanfic! All the fanfic!

AND, oh my gosh, so agreed on all the Ben/Leslie stuff. I enjoy their relationship just fine in canon, but the fandom frenzy over it tends to make me all irrational and 'Screw it! Leslie is only allowed to make out with Ann and Ron!' Poor Ben and his nonexistent manpain; fandom, why you gotta roll like that?

Man, right? Wuthering Heights is AMAZING AND SO FUCKED UP, Heathcliff did some WEIRD SHIT to Isabel and probably young Cathy and possibly Linton and possibly older Cathy and fic that really went for that would be amaaaaaazing. Yuletide is super fun, though the deadline is a bummer and I always feel like I don't do my best work, haha. BUT I WANT MORE LESLIE/RON FIC SO BAD.

Seriously, I like Ben/Leslie tons in the show, but whenever I read too much in the fandom I get super resentful of Ben! Get out of here, interloper, Leslie is married to both Ron and Ann and no others! Haha, it's funny, too, because all those people are huge Ben fans, but they tend to make him much more of an ass than his canonical self, so what kind of fan is that? Weirdness.

I approve of both of those make-out choices. But also Ben, too.

As a kid, I HATED Wuthering Heights--I kept shouting, "Oh my God, you weirdos, stop RUINING EVERYONE'S LIVES"--but I would be super up for reading that kind of fic.

And man, everything I hear about Parks and Rec fandom makes me so glad I'm not in it, which is a crying shame. I love Leslie/Ben! But it sounds like the fandom is sucking all the fun out of that couple, and ignoring what makes it work--ie, nobody is a douche and they deal with their shit like actual adults.

I don't even ship Ron/Leslie, but jfc, they are so so married. I would really be up for reading a fic about Ron, Leslie, and Ann all ending up in one giant marriage.

Oh man, I know, I really disliked Wuthering Heights in high school because it was billed to me as a love story and then I read it and I was like THESE PEOPLE ARE TERRIBLE, but if you read it as an adult and as being about, like, the nature of evil, then it is instantly SHOCKINGLY AMAZING. I reread it this summer by accident and was so incredibly into it.

Aww, I should say, Parks and Rec fandom is not any worse than any fandom, especially any fandom that revolves around a het OTP -- Office fandom was like TEN ZILLION TIMES WORSE. It's just that P&R fandom is super tiny, so there's not that much going on and you can't just find a nice corner and ignore everything else, haha. But yeah, I wish fandom in general was more willing to... haha, I guess write less cliched angst and actually respond to the show the way it is. But what're you going to do.

Oh man, I would be SUPER INTO Ron and Leslie and Ann threesome domestic fic! I feel like that group would function weirdly well.

Yessssss, I totally agree with everything you just said about Community -- I spent some time trying to articulate what I was feeling about the characters, and I am having a hard time putting my finger on it, but I totally do feel really distant from them where I used to find the show really emotionally gratifying. I feel like maybe Dan Harmon needs to pick a lane and decide whether he's writing a show that's a joke delivery system (30 Rock), a show that is about horrible people being hilariously horrible (Seinfeld, Parks and Rec), or a show that's about sympathetic characters (Cheers, Parks and Rec). Because I feel like he's always trying to get me to like the characters, but then taking it away, like, PSYCH, isn't it funny you just got invested in fictional people! O-or something, idk. The Jeff/Britta vs. Jeff/Annie thing is just a trainwreck, and I really really hate the way they're treating the ladies, and I really hate when the study group is awful to each other, and just, why can't we go back to that last half of the first season ( ... )

I am so in agreement with every single bit of this re: show reactions. And can I just say that I am loving Leslie and Ben's breakup possibly more than when they got together? It's just so...low-key and sad all at once. It's pretty amazing. I don't think I will ever stop loving Leslie. But I could absolutely do without Chris. He's so very uninteresting. He's making Jerry's screentime tons of fun, though.

Yes - more Donna storylines. Many, many more Donna storylines.

Man, seriously, I LOVE how low-key and sad the breakup has been! So adult and bummerific while still being such a shiny happy show, I don't even know how they did that.

And haha, that is a good point that Chris is giving Jerry a better storyline, so there's that. He's being so awful that I was really starting to wonder if they were actually writing him off, though, but now I'm not so sure. Ugh, just so pointless.

Retta is SO FUNNY with the little that Donna gets, I just need her in every scene!

They're magical! It's the only thing I can really think of. It's pretty darn amazing for sure. No resorting to tired manpain or what-an-evil-lady storylines: it must be magic.

Jerry gets so little screentime normally that Chris's absurdly assholic behavior is serving some purpose there, at least, but if they got rid of him I would not complain. They could fill that screentime with more Jerry and Donna. You're right; Retta is hysterical. I loved her in Pawnee Rangers. Her minutes weren't amazingly high, but they were some of the highest they've been, and she never disappoints.
