Okay, I'm going to try to get back in the swing of at least OCCASIONALLY posting to LJ, good lord. H-how are you guys?
First of all, a question: the other day
moireach told me that I should revive
nothing_hip this summer, after having let it lie fallow in 2009. It's a fic challenge community I used to run, where every week guilty pleasure songs are prompts for you

(Haha, also how charming is it that Ryan Seacrest was listening to Party in the USA 5 times in a row on his iPod? THERE IS NOTHING ABOUT THIS ANECDOTE I DON'T LOVE.)

and, of course, simon. jeez.
this is one of the quotes from simon's book:
That night we went to a club, where Ryan put the moves on a cute girl who worked for the show. As far as I was concerned, Ryan wasn't going to get a girl if I wasn't, and I didn’t want to because I was dating someone. We went back to the hotel, the three of us, and I was already in bed when I overheard Ryan out on the terrace, feeding this woman the most ridiculous lines imaginable. I actually heard him say, "I wonder why the stars in Miami are so much brighter than the stars in L.A.," and, "This may sound corny, but I believe destiny brought us here." Then he actually said, "Your eyes match the color of the ocean." That was it. I walked out onto the terrace, started talking about work, and then ( ... )

Hahah, I feel like every Vampire Diaries rec should come with the disclaimer of "The first few episodes aren't that great, but OMG does it ever pick up after that." I mean, if it really isn't your cup of tea, then that's fine, but I'd really recommend watching the first few episodes and then making up your mind. I would try...hmm. I'd actually try watching around episode 1x04, and maybe, IDK, checking out the TWoP recaps to catch up with the next two episodes. (even though holy crap, TWoP has gone down in quality and funny snark since Bravo took over.)
And hahah, about that Nick/Damian thing...you know that RLiv was recently in London for an award show right? Maybe he crashed over at his good friend Damian's place and had sex with him slept on the couch.

(Oh my God, TWoP, I know, right? I went to look at some True Blood recaps to check something this weekend, and, well, Jacob does them, and is there something literally wrong with his brain? UGH.)
I WAS UNAWARE OF THAT RLIV NEWS. Goddddddd I hope he crashed at Damian's. My need for RPF of them cannot be sated!

And HEE, oh man, Jacob is...good God, there really are no words to describe that dude. You should see the recaps he does for Gossip Girl. The woman who does the VD recaps isn't as bad (at least her writing is COHERENT) but...well. I miss Regina and the days of the Alias recaps, where things made SENSE and were actually funny too.
And oh please, I hope hope that RLIV crashed at Damian's--look, if Ross McCall can crash at Settle's place in New York while filming an episode of White Collar, it's the LEAST that Ron can do. And Damian. I am just saying.

I just don't see why Ron and Damian don't talk more to the press about where they are sleeping and how much they are doing it! I KNOW I FOR ONE AM VERY INTERESTED. God, Ross McCall crashing at Settle's was like my favorite thing ever. And when Cudlitz twittered about a BoB reunion BBQ with the Pacific guys I desperately wanted to ask him if Ron and/or Damian were there. If I didn't have a hard and fast rule about not engaging the celebrities, well, it wouldn't have been pretty.

WHERE DID YOU HEAR THIS. Because honestly, I love True Blood and never got into VD (har har, did you see what I did there).
Honestly, it gets a little tedious as you get into the second season, but I am all over Eric the Vampire you wouldn't believe (especially if you ever read the books - which, honestly, aren't worth buying but worth a check-out from the library if you're spending a few days at the beach or pool or something). Anyway, the new season's coming out so I think I'm really excited about it again.
Also, I may have lied about whether I will actually write something for Nothing Hip if you start it up again but who knows?? I WANT TO BE OPTIMISTIC.

I am excited to see more of Eric! I loved Gen Kill, so it's hilarious to see Brad Colbert trying to be a vampire with long hair. And getting mad at Bill for not texting him back.
Now is the time for unbridled nothing_hip optimism! August is the time for saying, huh, look how that didn't pan out, haha.

I love both True Blood and VD, for entirely diff reasons. True Blood for being so lurid and soapy and hilariously awful, and VD for actual good storytelling. I swear it gets better! You just need to get through the first few eps, I guess around the time Elena finds out about vamps and the Vicki arc is wrapped up (thank god for that). I totes agree about vampires always enrolling in high school - why??? - but at the same time I think this show is the first to ever get high school vampire right. I think the show just knows its genre really well - sees what the inherent problems are within it and address them or subverts them or something. I DON'T KNOW, IT JUST WORKS. Stefan is in no way as creepy and controlling as Edward or Bill, and Damon is up there with Spike and Eric.
Hahaha, I can't believe you're a Bill fan. I don't think I've ever met one before. What's it like being you?
Speaking of Kentucky, ARE YOU WATCHING JUSTIFIED?

I will totally push through on VD if it gets better! I think my expectations made me react weirdly to the two shows, because TB was way better than I was expecting and VD was just, like, broody vampire Twilight-repeat in that first episode and I was like, yawwwn.
Ahahaha, I'm not exactly a Bill FAN, but I was expecting to hate him and he's not so bad! I know, I know, I don't know what's wrong with me either.
I haven't watched Justified yet, but it's on my list! I hear good things and I see a lot of pictures of Timothy Olyphant leaning on things, so.
