Universe is a go!

Well... it didn't take them a lot of time, that's for sure. It kinda make you wonder if they cancelled atlantis just so Universe could get started. Brad Wright himself said that the cancellation was a mutual decision between him, NBC and SciFi, so obviously he didn't fight very hard to keep team!Atlantis on the small screens. Wich makes me kinda ( Read more... )

Less sci-fi and younger viewers. Um, no thanks. I turn off shows like the OC on purpose. I'm rather offended by the way they've announced this, and by the phrasing of their plans. It's clear that they want a demographic that's not me, so I don't think I'm bothering with this show. And after I've bought all of Atlantis on dvd to support the franchise, even though it's a pale substitute for SG-1.

They really aren't being all that subtle, aren't they?

What brings in older viewers (and viewers of all ages) is a good, intelligent show with heart. Unfortunately, so far that doesn't seem to be part of the agenda. People are calling it Stargate 90210. Sounds more to me like Stargate Gossip Girl or Stargate The Hills.

I'll probably watch but if it sucks, it will not be appointment viewing.

This was not handled well from a PR point of view - these guys (all of them - producers, studio and channel) are not being very responsive to their current fan base. Very disappointing.

Word. Those guys already have a huge fanbase. Both me and Anna live in a country where Stargate doesn't even air, yet we are fans of the show. That means something - the show that has heart and is written well will make a difference in a world today. It will reach people, regardless of TV networks. Then some of us might even fork out money for DVDs.

The "this show isn't made for fans" logic some of the producers with bad blogs seem to adhere to always makes me wonder - why do you make the show if not for the fans? Who should watch it? Hey, we're the most likely group to actually buy something and at the end of the day it's always about money. So yeah. Go and bring pretty and brainless. Without good writing and heart the new show will sink deeper than Atlantis.

I know what you mean... I'm definetly watching the pilot if only just to satisfy my own curiosity. I really wanna see what's it gonny look like.

And I totally agree on the PR thing. Bad moves.

Voyager meet Beverlly Hills? *headdesk* It's about characters after all?? Don't you tell me, Brad! I wonder how many characters you guys will treat as secondary this time around, and for how long will some of them wait to get a proper name (Major Lorne anyone?) Also, I wonder who'll get to be killed, airlocked, um, no, gated into space after being killed off at least three times on and off the screen. Then you get to tell us it's because of the reality sake, because in reality people die. But wait, this is sci fi and nobody dies in sci fi ( ... )

Well, I REALLY love Voyager so that part doesn't really bother me... what does is the Beverly Hills part. (even though the first couple of seasons were awsome) But I doubt they'll be teenagers, more like late twenties, early thirties.

But you know me, ;) I have to watch it and then decide whether I'll continue. At least the first ep. That's the only way to see if my concerns are justified.

Wanna bet everyone on the cast will be flawlessly pretty?

LOL I believe there'll be at least one token older person. :) And I really don't care about that IF they can act. It's the same in "Doctor Who". Rose, Martha, Astrid... all pretty young companions... with the only exception for Donna who's not yor typicall beautiful woman coz she's *gasp* older and curvy. Even the Doctors are young now. But like I said... I don't have a problem with that AS LONG as they can act. And all DW cast is just beyond AMAZING.

I mean, the reason I fell in love with both shows is the humor.

AGREED. I mean, I would still enjoy it otherwise, but I fell in love with it so quickly because John and Rodney are just so FUNNY. I think Universe definitely has an interesting premise and I'll be excited to see how it turns out, too.

As long as it's still "Stargate" (humor, team, awsome charater chemistry and scifi) - I'm there.
