Good One, Bad One [Emo Post, beware]

I am feeling thoroughly inadequate today and I hate it (well, who wouldn't, really). I am working on a paper which is hopefully going to be published in a law journal early next year. Said paper is a joint collaboration between my colleague and me. He is, however, a much more experienced scholar than me and really knows how to write in legalese. Up ( Read more... )

I'm sorry things are rough right now. Feeling inadequate when working with a partner? The worst. But you're not alone there. I felt like a doofus the majority of my law school career. You can't let it get you, you know? Cause the only way to get experience is by doing it, writing it, swimming in it, whatever. Even if this guy does know more than you (which I doubt) you're smart, you're quick, and you're driven. If you weren't all these things, then you wouldn't have the job, the round table, the moot court coaching, or the dreaded paper itself. Which means it will get better.

The over-extension is a thing you have to be careful with so that you don't get sick or go crazy or, you know, go for the gold and do both. (I had double pneumonia and insomnia for four weeks in my final year because I was working two jobs, going to school and taking care of Mom. I was crazier than Muffinmania!Izzie.)

Take care of yourself. I heart you and I'm here in anyway I can be.

Thank you. Now I will take care not to go Izzie-crazy, because we all know (or we don't) where that would lead. At least we don't get to cut LVAD wires in our field...

You are absolutely right about having to swim in it. I feel a little better about it today.

I have this thing that I want to be the best at what I do. It's wrong. Don't let the feeling of inadequacy overwhelm you. Remember. He was at one time, in the exact same position you are now. He didn't just write like that from the beginning. You'll get better at this.

Overworking yourself sucks but I'm not sure it can be avoided right now. Still sucks, though.

Oh, and I hope the good news of yours come through and you tell us about it.

Thank you for cheering me up a little. I hope the good news will happen, too! I will tell you either way, as soon as I know for sure.

Anyway, I feel a little better today. I'll send the latest draft to my colleague today and I can only hope he likes it better than the last version...
