There's gonna be nightmares tonight

Oh. My. God.
I just finished reading Battle Royale. That is one crazy manga, holy crap. I meant it when they don't pull punches, and in my opinion, there were way too many page spreads. There's only so many times I need to see someone's brain come out of their heads in detail ( Read more... )

JESUS, Battle Royale is seriously crazy shit. It sucked me in so hardcore, though. Because as messed up as it may be, it's still awesome. Except maybe all the sex. I could've done without that.

Shuuya pissed me off with how ~OPTIMISTIC~ and ~HEROIC~ he was being. Bitch didn't go crazy once. I raged. And Kiriyama had all sorts of cheat codes, might I add. And Kawada was my second favorite. I think my first would be Shinji. Also, Yuichiro. ;-; The manga and the movie both gave him a misleading death, though. Mitsuko didn't kill him because he was turned on! It's all a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie. /sob

The movie sucks. Really, really bad. It completely betrays the book and the manga. As far as I'm concerned: book > manga >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> movie. I definitely recommend reading the book. \o/

I know right? I actually caught myself cursing out loud after some of the deaths. I agree with you about the sex though.

And with Shuuya, I was with him until the last couple of volumes. Some crazy bastard's coming to kill you and you want to 'redeem' him? I wanted to pull my hair out. God, Kiriyama had me freaked out so bad - especially at the end. He just wouldn't die. Shinji was pretty awesome too. I think I found his and Hiroki's deaths the most upsetting.

No no no, if you can read the manga, you can get through the live action Movie. It's actually funnier than it is scary. For me, the scariest media the story has been put in was the book its self. I had to sleep with the lights on and check behind curtains a few days after reading it;;

That's what I was thinking, but for me, sometimes it's easier to see it on paper than on screen. I'll probably end up watching it anyway - I'm way too interested not to.

If the book is scarier than the manga, then I definitely want to read it. Even if I end up not sleeping afterward ;;

I didn't knew that Battle Royal was supposed to be scary/suspense/something. I'll put it into the 'must see' manga.

Definitely. I don't tend to read action manga, especially when it's graphically violent, but the story is way too good to pass up.

Then I really really must see it.

The movie isn't TOO violent :D Personally I liked it a lot, but I am also a grammar Nazi and the poor translation of the book kept me from being capable of enjoying it. Since that's a poor excuse, I might try again, but... I have never felt so betrayed by a translation. Even if it was badly done, at least it could be READ. GOD.

But whatever you do, do NOT watch the *second* Battle Royale movie. It is in no way worth it.
