HONESTY MEMEI've been sick this whole weekend. It started on Friday, I woke up and felt horrible. My head was killing me, I was hot and cold at the same time, I was all stuffy, and I couldn't stop throwing up. I was really scared, because I had no idea what was wrong with me. Saturday was better, but I still was stuffy with a headache, but now my ( Read more... )

I love Akira to pieces. I've only been able to peek over people's shoulders while they're reading it, but it looks so amazing that I can feel it through my sneakiness. The movie itself is amaaazing, though, I know one version of the dub is horrible.

It really is the best, it gets you right in the heart. The manga does have more substance, but you really have to devote time to it, since each volume is around 400-430 pages. And yesss, the movie is spectacular. I watched the Pioneer dub, which is the better one.

I'd be so willing to buy them, but at $25 a piece, it makes my wallet sad. But even with that said, you're paying for amazing art and I know there are a ton of color pages in each volume. Oooh, I want so bad ;n; Too bad the library stopped carrying it /shakes fist

I watched the worse dub (I think they even called it the "better, re-dubbed version!" once and couldn't stop laughing my head off. Just the way they went pronouncing things was hilarious. But I do agree with you in your entry, that they really sort of pushed the chick out of the movie when it felt like she had more to it.

I'm the same way. I'd love to own them, but I just don't have the money for it. That's why I just read it online. Hopefully I can get a hold of them in the future.

Kaori never makes it to the status of "main" character, but she does have more to do in the manga. Then again, her role in the manga is related to Akira, and since they changed what he is in the movie, her role couldn't stay the same. In a way they also didn't give as much attention to Kei. She was prominent in the movie yeah, but it's amazing how important she becomes in the manga. Plus there's a lot of banter between her and Kaneda that is lost.

I don't really fault the movie though, it's still amazing. And it was directed by the mangaka, so he knew what he was doing.
