Yesterday, in conjunction with pre-birthday celebrations, we went to see Star Wars - the Ballet! I wonder if it's going to be as good as Star Wars: The Musical.

The only thing that saddens me is that it's not our local and wonderful BalletMet, so Darth Vader will not be played by the ever impressive and cape-tastic Jimmy Orrante. It would be the perfect role for him!

Last night we went to see BalletMet's spring show American Legends with Jon and Christin. It was three "acts" each of which was based around the music of some "American Legend": Stevie Wonder, Johnny Cash, and Sammy Davis Jr. We thought: Johnny Cash + Ballet? What's not to love? Well...

So, it turns out, when you take A Midsummer Night's Dream and remove all the good parts, the lovers can actually be pretty funny after all.

I really like the Great Gatsby - and, on reflection, I have no idea why.

To close their season every year, BalletMet does something huge. Last year it was Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty. And this year it was Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliette. Usually, that's not something I'd be terribly excited about, but I figured Romeo having no lines could only be an improvement ( Read more... )

I went to the ballet with Christin and Dahee last night. It was Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty. I really love being a student - we got $57 loge tickets for $10 apiece.
