let us not forget that the gay marriage bans passed barely and was out right rejected. Also eminent domain restrictions were not passed in several states. And funding requests were passed across the nation. Liberal everywhere victorious. Booyah bitch.
Unfortunately, the house is blue but not much further left. Many moderate Republicans were replaced by conservative Democrats, and in many states (like mine) seats were won on fractions of percents, which means the winners have to toe the center or they risk losing in the next election.
So while I celebrate success, I remain *cautiously* optomistic.
very few conservative Democrats actually won, much to the news medias chagrin. Of the 27 pickups all favor stem cell research, raising the minimum wage, cutting interests on student loans, and time set American withdrawl from Iraq. Only five were pro life and not one supports free trade. I wouldn't call them that conservative. Also, the two members of the progressive caucus who ran for senate won with two of the biggest margins.
THE single thing that made me happiest about this was the record youth turnout, followed very closely by the fact that that made a huge difference in the election. I think you said it best, When we show up, old rich white neo-conservative evangelical christian gay-hating women oppressing (insert other assholic adjectives here) be damned. This is OUR government and it is PEOPLE-POWERED. All the victories for the Democrats make me extremely happy and I look forward to all the positive change they will hopefully enact, for the benefit of our country and potentially the world, but on a more personal, emotional level it is so good to finally see my (our) generation making a difference and taking a stand to enact real change. We don't just sit and complain anymore, we VOTE. We determine who gets the job and hold the people who screw things up accountable by voting them out of office. I'm hoping this will get people to listen to us more, to change their campaign strategies, to re-evaluate what issues are important and what stance they should
