THE single thing that made me happiest about this was the record youth turnout, followed very closely by the fact that that made a huge difference in the election. I think you said it best, When we show up, old rich white neo-conservative evangelical christian gay-hating women oppressing (insert other assholic adjectives here) be damned. This is OUR government and it is PEOPLE-POWERED. All the victories for the Democrats make me extremely happy and I look forward to all the positive change they will hopefully enact, for the benefit of our country and potentially the world, but on a more personal, emotional level it is so good to finally see my (our) generation making a difference and taking a stand to enact real change. We don't just sit and complain anymore, we VOTE. We determine who gets the job and hold the people who screw things up accountable by voting them out of office. I'm hoping this will get people to listen to us more, to change their campaign strategies, to re-evaluate what issues are important and what stance they should take on those issues - especially since if we remain quite vocal and visible many older politicians may have to redefine relative terms, such as "liberal". The future is ours and it's about time we start having a say in what goes on NOW to affect it.
