The ending of the film was a bit weak, but that's okay after a very strong climax, I guess.
I liked loved most of the movie, but the very end went a tiny bit off the rails. They made up that last trio-scene from whole cloth, and it just didn't work for me. I found the same with the LotR movies - they condensed and adapted brilliantly, but when they had to make something up entirely, like Osgiliath, it just reminded me why the original author was the master.
I was very happy with the Yule Ball.
I thought I was, but now not so much - but that'll be its own post. :) And I really missed Hermione's glare at Fleur after the second task - she was too busy kissing Harry's head, one of the few moments I thought really could confuse people about her affections.
hint: "Voldemort comes back to life" not "Hermione kisses Harry on the cheek"
Oh please. Voldemort coming back to life wasn't even in the last chapter!
The only performance I was actively unhappy with is unfortunately a huge one -- Michael Gambon as Dumbledore. I usually love the man, but he does NOT understand Albus Dumbledore. Why, oh why won't he read the books???
Thank you for saying this, I know I saw the first two movies before reading the books, yet Sir Richard Harris pulled off Dumbledore and I lament his loss. I like Gambon, but he doesn't get it, it's just that simple.
I liked the movie overall and have similar views on some subjects, overall, it was a good film that I thought paced well considering...
The dummies they used for the hostages underwater were incredibly unconvincing.
Except the Hermione one actually had Hermione hair! It was nice to see it.
My favorite R/Hr scene was the one at the very beginning.
I liked Ron pulling up his blanket so she couldn't see...what, his tank top? ;P Very cute. But I don't understand why she was so angry. And she struck me as angry there. They established that she'd arrived about two seconds before--what was wrong? I could be remembering it wrong, though; it was a midnight showing and I was tired.
It was because of the deeply-fated intense meaningful soulmatey mind-reading bond between Ron and Hermione, of course! She psychically knew that he was going to refuse to wake up and almost make them late for the portkey.
