I can't remember if I saw Transporter or the Italian Job first? I know I saw the Italian Job in theaters and caught Transporter on cable or DVD... At any rate, I'm right there with you on the Statham lovins. I even watched the Mechanic, which lets face it, is not really worth watching otherwise.

Is it Transporter where he has that totally awesome fight scene in a big puddle of motor oil?

URGH. The Mechanic. It's like this giant wealth of potential squandered. That ending is such bullshit, I can complain about it forever. I still enjoyed it on a few levels though, but I hate wasted potential.

I do wonder if part of his success in action films is that he both looks like he could do actual damage and that he looks like he can think. There seems to be a lack of that in Hollywood.
