Fucking amen to all of this. It's one of those things that just, argh, there's no win. On one hand, yeah, entertainment. On the other hand, there's so much social conditioning and/or stereotyping and/or insert-more-words-here that gets perpetuated because popular entertainment is reinforcing all of it. RAR.

Wow, hmmmm. I really can't recall offhand any specific instances of AJ referring to his mom, so I don't have a canon reference. But I do feel that he's a "mom" kind of guy in most typical conversation, but might use the occasional "mama said" to make a point.

Yep. I went to check out the preview on YouTube, and as soon as the dude's new partner showed reluctance to work with his insufferable (and, it's implied, dangerous?) ass I could see the character arc now: reluctant partner learns to recognize the irreverent genius of the white male lead! Soon plot happens and he's putting his neck on the line to protect his Special Snowflake Honky Partner! Because poc/women just need to learn to recognize the importance of white men and sacrifice for them!
