redfiona99 asked for Top Five Reasons to Watch Legend of the Seeker. I've long wanted to do a pimp post for LotS, with screencaps and everything, but I'm LAZY. So I think this will suffice in its place.
Anybody who ever said that they're glad PD got canceled needs a punch to the face. I understand how it may not be everybody's cup of tea, but PD emerged in an ocean of clones and remakes. It had an original concept, a wonderful cast, and one of the most amazing color palettes on TV. Everybody should've supported that. Even if you didn't like PD, its success would've been a sign that the audience wanted something more. But you know, instead PD is canned, TSCC is canned, and we're going to get endless Leno and even more cheap, mind-rotting reality TV. Noooooo, I'm not bitter AT ALL. THIS PARAGRAPH IS MADE OUT OF 100% WORD!
LOLOLOL, yeah exactly. Beth looked at me like I was a freak, but that was kinda the point. That it's completely pointless. If I could draw, oh man, I'd SO draw it.
Would that make Trips' the daddy? Poor Jericho.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL. Wouldn't that be the biggest insult? I'm trying to remember who the daddy is. Steph is an angel, but the guy is human. Dammit, who was it. It was probably Steve Austin or something equally ridiculous, 'cause I had a very brief Austin/Stephanie phase. I know it's definitely not Kurt, 'cause Kurt is one that Jericho shacks up with.
There are 239478289423943 shows with flawed, terrible, horrible people. This is a show about a clear-cut, good-hearted, honest hero. In some ways, I find it kinda sad that we've become so disillusioned that a hero without irony is no longer believable.
I have problems with Richard, but THIS THIS THIS times a million in the general sense. I love good guys. I love heroes with a cause. The quickest way to get my hackles up is to whine that a hero is boooring or too good or too righteous. Fuck you, if the alien apocalypse came to your doorstep, who would you want in your corner?
Certainly, LotS is not a show without flaws. There is iffyness here and there, but mostly, it is very disheartening to see the Richard-is-boring opinion floating around when I feel like he's SO sincere and he's genuinely coming from a good place and the show as a whole is fairly balanced in terms of demonstrating that occasionally he IS too naive.
I think I said it before. I don't understand the tendency for fandom to strip the edges from a flawed character until he's fluffy, but turn around and find a truly good-guy character boring.
What fucks me is that I often find righteous, good-hearted characters the most interesting anyway. Whenever there's some cool trenchcoat anti-hero I just think, yeah, been there, done that. What I find way more engaging is a good, strong lead with a moral struggle -- a challenge to stay true to their ideals, or trying to do good in a crap world. Anyone can be a jerk. If I wanted to watch a jerk, I'd just open my front door. I'd much rather go with heroes, for better or worse.
(I'm going to keep using Legend icons until you surrender. Dam Duk is one of the true heroes! He's the reincarnation of Jesus!)

And I have Legend!!! I just have to, uh, you know, watch it.
Er. Yeah. You know, I think a lot of people really do just watch TV as a distraction, and just pay attention to the surface of a show instead of what's underneath. Not that everything necessarily has to be analysed, but if you're not aware of or at least feeling what's underneath, well, I think you're missing a lot.
For some of the most brilliant and awesome things I've ever witnessed, I had to suffer through a dreadful amount of shit. ... It's kinda like fandom in a way, hahaha. Um.
Yeah, I understand that. Sometimes I just want to be entertained, I just want to be dazzled, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I mean, hahah, me, the lover of terrible action movies. So it isn't always MUST HAVE SUBSTANCE. MUST HAVE DEPTH. But at the same time, I guess I get resentful and annoyed when stuff like Dollhouse which, imo, is cheap exploitation and poorly handled getting fawned on by fandom while something truly genuinely deep and thought-provoking like CM flies under the radar. Dollhouse receives its fair share of criticism from fandom, true enough, but I boggle at people who think this is a deep treatment of victimhood and identity when NO, it's not even close
( ... )
Yes yes yes! Nothing wrong with brain candy (says the girl who was quite content to let herself be enthralled by the film version of Stardust), but yes, exactly. Drives me batshit crazy when the cheap sensationalist crap gets touted as being great and deep and whatever (instead of just being fun or entertaining), and things that do have layers are dismissed with criticism that doesn't even really fit. Rargh. Some shows are like icebergs, I guess, and not everyone sees (or wants to see) underwater.
... ALSO WHAT THE HELL. How the. I mean. What. I didn't see the article, but. WHAT. *facepalm x 1 million* Um, yeah. How the hell can you be ON a show like that and not GET IT? I repeat: WHAT.
Also, nothing makes me appreciate and really see the show's growth like rewatching parts of my season 1 dvds.
Like, I completely understand and sympathize with the part where he says that he burned out because he had to deal with dark subject matters, that he had to be in a terrible mental space, and that wore on his soul. I GET THAT. But everything he said other than that was like OMG WTF SHUT UP. Seriously, that's just... what a smack to the face. That pretty much guarantees that I will never watch another Mandy Patinkin show ever again, that's how pissed off I am. CM has always been that ONE show that had an actual moral center, that was all about how the world is shitty and how there may not be a reward for being good, but you MUST, you must choose justice because that's the RIGHT THING TO DO. And there are an astounding lack of shows with something THAT moral at its core, and here he is, shitting all over that. Fuck you, Mandy.
