yet more fannish five

Aug 18, 2009 16:04

redfiona99 asked for Top Five Reasons to Watch Legend of the Seeker. I've long wanted to do a pimp post for LotS, with screencaps and everything, but I'm LAZY. So I think this will suffice in its place.

I LOVE THIS SHOW )

wrestling is made of fail, wrestling, criminal minds, plot bunnies, twig is made of fail, survey says, writing, pushing daisies, fannish 5, legend of the seeker, burn notice, medium

Yeah, I understand that. Sometimes I just want to be entertained, I just want to be dazzled, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I mean, hahah, me, the lover of terrible action movies. So it isn't always MUST HAVE SUBSTANCE. MUST HAVE DEPTH. But at the same time, I guess I get resentful and annoyed when stuff like Dollhouse which, imo, is cheap exploitation and poorly handled getting fawned on by fandom while something truly genuinely deep and thought-provoking like CM flies under the radar. Dollhouse receives its fair share of criticism from fandom, true enough, but I boggle at people who think this is a deep treatment of victimhood and identity when NO, it's not even close.

And it bugs me even more when-- omg, did you read that article that came out where Mandy FINALLY talked about why he flounced from the show? I mean, it's not anything we didn't expect, basically that he burned out, but omg, he said something along the lines of not understanding why people want to come home and watch something this dark, that's all about death and misogyny. And I was like BITCH PLEASE. Bad enough that he flounced, which is SO incredibly unprofessional. But to talk about the show like that. Way to piss on the fans, on the people who enjoyed your work on the show. And way to completely not even come close to understanding your own work. I'm glad, double over, that he's gone. The show has grown SO MUCH without him.

Yes yes yes! Nothing wrong with brain candy (says the girl who was quite content to let herself be enthralled by the film version of Stardust), but yes, exactly. Drives me batshit crazy when the cheap sensationalist crap gets touted as being great and deep and whatever (instead of just being fun or entertaining), and things that do have layers are dismissed with criticism that doesn't even really fit. Rargh. Some shows are like icebergs, I guess, and not everyone sees (or wants to see) underwater.

... ALSO WHAT THE HELL. How the. I mean. What. I didn't see the article, but. WHAT. *facepalm x 1 million* Um, yeah. How the hell can you be ON a show like that and not GET IT? I repeat: WHAT.

Also, nothing makes me appreciate and really see the show's growth like rewatching parts of my season 1 dvds.

You pretty much said it all right there, how I feel about all that. <3

Article is here.

SO. PISSED. OFF.

Like, I completely understand and sympathize with the part where he says that he burned out because he had to deal with dark subject matters, that he had to be in a terrible mental space, and that wore on his soul. I GET THAT. But everything he said other than that was like OMG WTF SHUT UP. Seriously, that's just... what a smack to the face. That pretty much guarantees that I will never watch another Mandy Patinkin show ever again, that's how pissed off I am. CM has always been that ONE show that had an actual moral center, that was all about how the world is shitty and how there may not be a reward for being good, but you MUST, you must choose justice because that's the RIGHT THING TO DO. And there are an astounding lack of shows with something THAT moral at its core, and here he is, shitting all over that. Fuck you, Mandy.

*coff* Yeah, ask me how I REALLY feel.

... Oh, KISS MY ASS. Seriously. (Him, not you.)

Yeah, I can understand burning out on dark subject matters, especially if you've got to let these characters into your head at least somewhat to be able to play a part convincingly. But what the hell? The rest just confuses the hell out of me and makes me rageful, to boot. Why in hell would someone get involved with a show to begin with if they're so "disturbed" by the fact that people, you know, might want to watch it?

And YES. The moral centre is what sets it apart, and, what, I still can't understand how someone can be right at the core of the show and not see that. What.

I used to have a fair amount of respect for him (it's been slowly fading), but it's seriously just plummeted right into negative numbers. Urgh.

RITE RITE RITE???? And apparently he hates violence on television, so it's like WHY THE HELL DID YOU EVEN SIGN ON IN THE FIRST PLACE? It's such a pile of unprofessional bullshit. I honestly have no problems with the fact that he thinks there's too much violence on television, because I'd actually agree, but if it was too hard, then you ask to leave. You don't NO SHOW. And then you certainly don't trash the people who were fans of yours, fans of your show. Oh gee, I must be such a sick person to wanna unwind at the end of day by watching murder and torture.

Yeah, I used to respect him, too. But not anymore.

... Hates violence on television and signs onto a... crime drama. O.o Um. Brain?

And yeah, that's exactly it. There are millions of more diplomatic ways he could have gone about the whole thing, rather than just bailing and then shitting on the fans. Oi.

Kinda OT now, except not, 'cause it's still about CM. I'm all kinds of a;fdajkflda;jfkldafd CAN'T WAIT OMG CRIES for the season premiere.

Stupid CM always ends on a cliffhanger, but this one really does have me ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT OMG. 'Cause last season ended with the explosion, and I was like WHUT, then I was like THIS IS SO LAME, then I got over it, and I didn't even really think about it. But this time? I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT. Mostly because, you know, as we said before, a whole season of Hotch-whumping led up to this, so I'm anticipating a lot of thematic/emotional fall-out. I'm kinda terrified, tbh, that my expectations are too high. T___T

THAT IS EXACTLY IT. It wasn't a thing-of-the-week that ended on an awesome cliffhanger, it was a whole season of little things adding up. AUUUGH. And it's Hotch, damn it.

... IDEK with the expectations. Because it's CM, and it consistently lives up to expectations. But. Still. Yes. *flails*

YES! A whole season of little things. IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS THAT KILL YOU. Plus, yeah, it's HOTCH. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOTCH.

I always worry when I get too a;fdjsafkl;jdalfd over a show. ://////

Little things will shatter my head far more completely than one giant blast of melodrama. Or many blasts of melodrama, for that matter.

I always worry when I get too a;fdjsafkl;jdalfd over a show. ://////

Urgh, yeah. Because just about the time I get so addicted it's unreal, something happens that I totally hate (and can't handwave).

CM, I HAVE FAITH IN YOU. PLZ DON'T DO SOMETHING I HATE.

Uh huh. I mean, a gun isn't subtle in the least, but the build-up. THE BUILD-UP. I keep wanting to post about it, except it wouldn't be anything I haven't already said. I just want to keep talking about it though. Ahhhh.

I WANT TO HAVE FAITH TOO. CRIES.

It, uh, kinda worries me to hear that a bunch of writers are leaving the show. So.

LMAO, welcome to my life. I NEVER TIRE of talking about some things, even when it gets to the point of wait-I-already-said-this.

... A bunch of writers are leaving? Crap.

I am so out of the loop with, er, everything backstage where current fandoms are concerned. Oi.

Hahahaha, that's me, too. Blah blah blah A. Blah blah blah B. Blah blah blah A again.

I heard that, except I'm trying to find confirmation somewhere, and I'm not finding it. So. I may just be talking out of my ass. Or overly paranoid. T__T

HA, exactly. But it never gets old!

I kinda hope it's not like... a huge writer turnover. Not that this would necessarily be 100% bad, but I kinda like the writers they have now. >_>
