Prince Caspian

Oh my god, I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PISSED. Like. Words cannot describe how PISSED OFF I am right now from watching this movie. I didn't think this could happen with a Narnia movie of all things. If I'd seen this in the theater, I might have walked out. I don't know if I can finish watching. That is how PISSED OFF I am ( Read more... )

people are fucking stupid, movies, this shit ain't right

I knew there was a reason I didn't watch this film, even when I had the chance to watch it for free. How badly did they screw up Reepacheep? (For similar reasons to your love of Peter)

Thankfully, no, they didn't mess him up. I was REALLY worried about that, because I love Reepacheep, too, but they did him justice. I would've been HOPPING MAD otherwise. Well, more than I already am. Eddie Izzard voiced him! And he did a really good job.

They did keep the duel scene, and it was well-done. That scene is one that I was really looking forward to. So that was something, I guess. I just don't understand why they changed that, because everything else was pretty much the same as the book, with some slight changes and re-ordering, yes, but mostly in keeping with the book. That HUGE deviation really really pissed me off, because it just really really changed something fundamental. Blargh. SO MAD.

I'm always warey of anything that changes things just to change them (or possibly to make Caspian cooler).

I do think they upped Caspian's age to make him more assertive, independent, and relatible, which is well and good, I suppose, I don't necessarily have a problem with that. I just really really hate that they made him and Peter clash and made Peter look like a total douche in the process.

Honestly, I'd rather people read The Chronicles of Narnia than Twilight.

That's like saying you'd rather have foot cancer than ass cancer.

-_- Whatever, dude. It's actually well-written and teaches you to act like decent human beings. Your disdain for Christianity aside -- which, btw, we both share -- even you can get behind something that's about teaching kids not to be an asshole. You can't even put it in the same category as shit like Twilight.

I know you're trolling for lulz, but seriously, dude, obviously I really care about this series.

Stupid Narnia. I loved that series like mad when I was younger, and was so hoping the series of films would stand up to my stupid fannish love. The first one did (and I could totally ignore the Christian-ness of it), but I didn't like the second.

Did not like the second. Couldn't put my finger on why, but urgh, yeah, HEY, there it is.

(Loved Reepicheep, though, but not enough to make me want to watch the film again.)

I have hope for Dawn Treader, but it was my favourite book, so I am also scared.

Same here, I LOVED Narnia when I was a kid. Didn't get the whole Christian allegory until much later, but while I was kinda meh about that briefly (since I'm really not into that in the least), ultimately, I decided that it didn't take away from everything else that the series imparts.

You know, I REALLY looked forward to the first one like CRAZY way back when. Then I saw it, and I was... underwhelmed. Like, it had all the moving parts, but it didn't gel for me. It didn't oomph me. Which is why while I wanted to see Prince Caspian in the theater, I ultimately didn't, and I'm glad now that I didn't, because wow, SO PISSED. There's changes, and then there's changes that alter something fundamental. Like, they feel they had to up Caspian's age, fine, okay, but the clashing. God, the clashing really pissed me off. The whole POINT is that Peter and Caspian were ultra respectful to each other. It contrasted Miraz's treatment of Caspian. And just meh, meh at them making Peter a douchebag. I LOVE PETER. YES. I've never been a Christian and didn't study it until university (in an anthropology of religion class), so I didn't see the references because I didn't have the knowledge to allow me to see it. Once I found out, it really bothered me for a while, but over time I sort of decided that I loved it for different reasons and the allegory didn't matter.

I loved the first film, but I did see it in the theatre. I wonder how much that affected it.

The whole POINT is that Peter and Caspian were ultra respectful to each other. It contrasted Miraz's treatment of Caspian.ARGH YES IT DID. The Hollywood-ing of their relationship basically turned it 180 degrees in the other direction. Make some changes for film, fine, but don't undermine the basic character of people ( ... )

so I didn't see the references because I didn't have the knowledge to allow me to see itSame here. I didn't grow up with that context, so it flew right over my head for a good long time. But I can ignore the allegory because what it imparts is something that, to me, goes beyond religion. Ultimately, what I always have issues with is the dogmatic aspect of religion, but I believe in being ethical, of living to a higher standard, not necessary God's, but just, you know, being good to one another. The Chronicles of Narnia has always been about THAT ( ... )
