There is a very annoying bird singing outside. At three AM. That doesn't seem quite right.

I did manage to finish reading the Milton criticism I was working on, and now am trying to finish with Tamburlaine before I go to bed. You see how well that's going. (On the one hand, I really want to go to bed, and on the other, I'm not really sleepy at all

If you'll recall, the computer had been imprinted with the mental patterns (whatever that means) of its creator, who believed strongly in the sanctity of life, so it was more a personal/cultural bias than a real law.

Or perhaps Daystrom himself believed himself that this would be the law of a perfectly law-abiding Federation. It might be seen as an instance where the the passion of emotion conflicts with passionless logic.

Then again, I bow before the dorkiness of Bromius and Lea.
