Setting fair expectations

your points:

Хорошо:
-- назначение центристкого или социально-либерального судьи в Верховный суд

i think the best is the nomination of a non-politicized, respectable jurist. like Souter was.

Плохо:
-- назначение очень судьи в Верховный Суд (в смысле позиции на аборты и другие социальные issues)

abortion access and gay marriage are IRRETRIEVABLE at this point. in fact too much power is given to teh states in that regard, and they wind up with ridiculous measures that are successful in cutting access to BOTH.

you see, states are more evil than feds, usually. and more corrupt.

-- ослабление НАТО (конкретно ужасно: отказ поддержать члена НАТО в военном конфликте; но и просто слова действующего президента о том, что возможно такой отказ будет -- уже очень плохо).

i am for NATO reform. it is an overrated and useless, biased organization. but getting rid of it entirely would n not be right or possible. so, getting fair money out of participant states is a start - or they are out.

> i am 180% at odds with you here/ Crimea should be recognized, in exchange for putin pulling out of donbass and settling war scores with Ukraine - with money.

Neville Chamberlain : Munich accord signaled "peace for our time". It never worked and never will work.

appeasement will never work especially with any rogues since they will consider it not a bargaining but a sign of weakness. What will prevent them attacking and occupying Baltic countries after that? Speaking of history repeating itself ( 1940 anyone? )

well, I don't subscribe to the appeasement of the rogue dictators either. It happened once and I don't want this set of events to repeat.

sure sure. you are fine with supporting and appeasing the saudis, with their fine manner of torturing and executing anybody who is not of their thinking, yeah... an their support of anti-western terrorism. that's FINE by you, but not rogue dictators who pick up a little region that basically begs for it, nooooo.

you're missing an obvious point - Saudis and the whole set of other bizarre characters have no intention to expand, they lack imperial ambitions so far. Yes they do secretly support different terrorist groups, however everything there is on the very local scale( 9/11 was not about annexation of NYC and attaching it to the Kingdom ) and they are probably the ones who would hate to have a Caliphate close to their borders hence it directly affects them. Plus, they don't have nuclear arsenal. And as far as I remember most horrific and devastating wars originated in Europe up to the date

> FINE by you, but not rogue dictators who pick up a little region that basically begs for it, nooooo.

the problem is that those dictators won't stop after the small region, they will be hungry for more and more, they don't know the other way of doing things. In their mind you either project power or you are a loser. You know where I learned that, Soviet Army. There was no wiggle room :)

i can only surmise that you have a direct line to Putin, or maybe you are a double agent - otherwise such knowledge is hard to explain away.

they pay me to think the things through thoroughly and use systemic approach to problems solving. Not "putinistas" :))
Of course, I can be wrong, in fact I would love to be wrong.
