My son goes to an American preschool, and we do have a committee that takes care of the presents. For the Holidays, it was the presents to a program director, all teachers and all substitutes.

Graduation, pretty much twice a year. One year when I was on mat leave with Z I refused to participate in the graduation party present saying that we're on a tight budget now. No one faulted me for that.

Our committee sends out the e-mails with suggested amounts and puts blank envelopes in the kids' cubbyholes. Parents don't need to say anything - just put the money in and drop it in the committee's box. There are no reminders or anything for those who forget.

Yup, getting an e-mail would be pretty irritating. Because, if I wasn't planning on giving her any gifts or was planning on something different, now I would be forced to feel bad if I'm not participating or if I'm choosing not to give any money.

what if the email said "I'm just sending out feelers to see if anyone thinks this is a good idea"?

I don't know, I guess I would be irritated to a lesser degree, but still irritated. :) I think this matter is between you and uchitel'nitsa, why do you want to involve other people?
