A little help, if you please

For my final year project I'm going to be making an email client for use with Googlemail. It will be very useful and more than a bit awesome. In order to make this as good as possible, I'd like some help.

What features would you want to see in an email client?

So far, I have the fo,lowing:

Buttons so you can check all mail, or check individual accts only. Basically once you've added the accts you should have a widget for 'add check button for this acct' to the existing navigation buttons.

It's a real shitter to do in Firefox Thunderbird so...

Would a drop down menu do for that? I'm thinking that a button for each account might take up a lot of space.

OK, neither of these will be breaking new ground perzactly, but I'm thinking:

1)Flashing the Num Lock LED upon new mail reception. (Probably not the easiest thing to code but it'd be the killer feature for me.

2)Different message received notification sounds for email with differing tags.
