You already know my feelings on this (that entry pretty much covers it) and it's about time we said it loud and clear. It's not okay, it's not legal and what's more, it's liable to be that one drop that makes the whole glass tip over. There's a lot of gray areas when it comes to fic and if we want to preserve the genre, it should stay gray.

Are they insane? If a author/publisher about this it could bring fandom to an end. Especially after the whole JK Rowlings thing.
