Declawing

Feb 04, 2010 03:00

I know it's a very sensitive issue for some, but I feel very strongly about it.  I believe that declawing is so wrong on so many levels.  The only way I would ever do it is if it was harmful for the cat if he/she didn't get declawed.  I believe that you shouldn't have procedures done on your animal unless it's beneficial for them.  Some people have ( Read more... )

I agree so much. It's just cruel.

I think that declawing your kitty because they scratch your furniture is riduculous--your cat should be more important to you than your couch.

This. And if your couch is more important than your cat then you shouldn't have a cat in the first place.

Our cat scratches everything, including the wallpaper straight off the wall, but we don't care because she's more important than any of our material possessions.

;) I'm glad I didn't piss anyone off here.

hahah your cat scratches the wallpaper? oh, dear. there's actually not too much here that she likes to scratch except her scratching posts--and the speakers....I guess I'm pretty lucky.

I totally agree. I would never want to hurt my cats that way.

yay ;)
It makes me so sad to see cats without their claws. some of them aren't too messed up because of it, but some are traumatized.

omg i agree completely.
our oldest cat who died about a year ago got declawed when she was a kitten because my parents didn't know what the procedure entailed and didn't know it would be painful for her... they actually cut off PART OF THE PAW and not just the claw itself, it's so awful DDDDD:

Oh my God, I'm so sorry. :(
Yeah, a lot of people don't know how horrible it actually is. When we got our family cat when I was little my dad wanted her declawed but my mom refused to have it done because she knew what it entailed.

I absolutely agree with you, thank you for your post on this issue.

I believe de-clawing is already banned in my area (Los Angeles) I remember it being on a ballot at least. oh my yes, delawing is one of the most inhumane things we can do to a cat (along with tail ear docking of dogs). They are left absolutely DEFENSELESS.

:)

That would be great if it was banned there! I know there is a part of Hollywood where it's illegal.

along with tail ear docking of dogs.

That's so sad. What's sadder is that there are vets that will do that. I'm lucky enough to have an awesome vet who refuses to do declawing (and she owns the place so no one else there does either).

I think more and more vets are refusing to do both declawing and the tail/eardocking. My own vet (I have a cat and a dog) even has a sign up in their waiting room stating their refusal to perform these procedures.
