There you go! I sit back and await the apologists - "I'm in my twenties or thirties and don't have kids and work in IT and have never been seriously ill and don't worry about my parents so I think they're doing a great job" "But - the deficit, man - we have to cut the deficit.."
Of course, because we got the country/economy/ world in this mess, we have to pay for it... not the greedy bankers and incompetent, corrupt or simply stupid politicians that got us into that situation .. :/
When I hear the phrase 'in these tough times' on TV or radio, it makes me cringe.
In principle, I am not against policies which leave people with less leeway to consume shit they don't need and I wouldn't mind at all paying more income tax, even quite a lot more income tax, assuming that those on large incomes and shareholders were paying too... it's just how disproportionately this is hitting the very vulnerable, and how most papers are not reporting many of the cuts that will really hurt people that upsets me.
And how the minimum wage is set so low you can't live off it in the bottom half of England without tax credits and housing benefits. If they're going to cut those then for fucks sake establish a living wage proportionate for the area. Or at least sort public transport out so it's feasible to commute to work on a low salary.
Well they will probably change their minds when they get made redundant, or they're ill and their health insurance doesn't cover their treatment. Ho ho ho.
It's really breathtaking, the sheer lack of perspective people have about these things. Seems when people have their own safety nets (family with money, well paying jobs, etc) they don't seem to be able to comprehend quite how paralysing and frightening it is to be one step away from poverty and homelessness or in the throes of an illness you can't afford to treat.
And when this fact is brought up, they rationalise and justify their position by blaming the people who are in the mess. Fractally wrong!
I can see why they want to bring down the massive amounts of money the government pays to landlords in housing benefit and in lieu of pay to low paid workers in tax credits.. that does need to be sorted out.. but they're not taking the money from the people who profited from it, they're taking it from the people who're being exploited..everything they do seems to be to profit big businesses who then take the money out of the country
