"Cold cocoa" is what those crazy Japanese call chocolate milk.
Well, not quite. It's a little different from chocolate milk. Not being a chocolate milk expert, I can't really say how.
The brand I used to drink used no milk at all. Rather, it used grape juice and coconut extract as a milk substitute. Those lactose-intolerant scientists at the Van Houten Tokyo Building are crafty, if not creative.
In closing, percentages really go the distance in Japan. Don't be surprised to find that your ramen contains only 1% pork extract. It's the thought of the number that counts, sometimes.
Yeah, being cold isn't that weird. as I said earlier, all the vending machines changed from HOT to COLD! so everything is cold now. coffee, tea, sega. cocoa. it was the milk difference that cracked me up. I guess at some point in the past that brand of cocoa changed from 23% to 25% (or vice versa) but they only changed one of the two example empty cans in the display. I'm just picturing some beverage exec thinking that an additional 2% milk content is what their cocoa needs to REALLY squash the competition!
Something you need to be careful of over here is getting drinks from rarely used vending machines. Since there are so many machines everywhere, some are just never used and can be sketchy. Like the machine at my gas station that still features Episode I Pepsi Cola ... shudder.
i find it amusing that i came across this journal, since you either don't update it, or it is on friends only now...
but, someone just recently told me to look up neutral milk hotel, and i was wondering what you know about them and how long they've been around and stuff...
