There are December days when it is perfectly light for a short period of time, and December days when it seems to forget to get light at all. I see no problem with commenting on this!
So Blunkett, having failed to get mandatory ID cards in, has renamed them 'mandatory passports', and they'll 'stop immigrants sponging', and will try again.
And I expect it will work and we'll soon have to present our ID cards to access any public service. Then we'll need to present them when we travel outside our designated regions...
The gender article confused me by saying "the cleanest version of a joke has as few pieces as possible." I eventually realised they meant the simplest and most uncluttered, but "clean" has a different and more salient meaning when talking about jokes. I thought they were saying that making the characters in a joke female made the joke dirtier.

Looks like I was right to leave my last UK job then! (the company was lined up to get the ID card contract).

The article makes a good point - and of course the same could be said about default whiteness, able-bodiedness, etc.
