I heard on the Corbyn's team on Radio 4 this morning. I felt I could have written that part of the Corbyn manifesto.

It's a really radical platform of policies Corbyn has set out now in this leadership campaign. I think he's basically used it as a dry run of the next election campaign.

I mean, if the PLP were ever going to let him try. Which clearly their plan is to continue rebelling even if he wins again.

They are not dissimilar to Miliband.

I always thought Milliband wanted to be a lot more radical than he was ever allowed to be.

I've posted about the women and drinking link, and no one has said they've been in a pro-drinking environment like the one she describes.

I'm not denying that it might exist, but I suspect it's a social network she chose when she was an alcoholic, and may not be all that typical.

Indeed. That sort of widespread drinking is quite alien to both me and my social group, and the only time I saw anything like that was when I went to grad school in Madison Wisconsin (where almost everyone drank far more and far more often than anywhere I've ever been before or since). I suspect that both subculture and region have a great deal to do with how widely alcohol is used.

God lord, and I thought Australia had drinking problems.

Seriously, rarely have I ever been involved in circles that drink like that. And when I have been the "designated driver" is usually enough to stop people forcing drinks on me.

It's even funnier now I'm diabetic, because soft drink is something I have to avoid.

Update: I've had one person say the culture in general is pretty hard-drinking, and I've spent my life in an unusually dry part of fandom.

Thank you for the link. I now need to read everything by Kristi Coulter.
