Why yes, I did spend Sunday clearing out the whole of the last month's emails...

> House Republicans, however, attached provisions to the bill that imposed restrictions on abortion, overturned clean water regulations, defunded parts of the president’s healthcare law, and sought to undo a ban on flying the Confederate flag at federal cemeteries.

Why are political hacks suck fucking cunts? It was exactly the same in student politics -- attach unrelated stuff to motions to get them through. You'd think then it was just because they were messing around and not taking it seriously, but once you're an actual real politician, what the fuck makes you think that's okay?

Yeah. I do wonder if there's scope for a president to say "I will veto any bill which has unrelated attachments. If you want to give huge wodges of cash to your constituents then you will need to bring forward a bill which does that, and that alone."

I think that is just how they do things. I think it's by design and I think you have to view it as part of a whole, complex system ( ... )

I think you are broadly right about the UK. The pendulum swings from left to right, depending whose turn it is to be in power. The thing that has happened in the past 20 years or so though is that New Labour have moved towards the centre, so the pendulum seems to be shifted to the right somewhat more. Whether the current rumblings within the Labour party will return the balance or not remains to be seen.

We tried to bring our daughter up on Studio Ghibli rather than Disney films, but most of her friends had never heard of them until she started showing them. I wonder if anyone has done a study on the impact of the different influences.

I doubt it, but it would be fascinating to see one!

And I'm glad she's spreading the word :-)

Although I'd personally say that people hate Congress for a variety of reasons, the fact that of all things they're trying to use Zika to further political agendae makes me :( and :\ the hardest right now.

Yeah, it just seems particularly awful that they're trying to tack awfulness onto helping people with a horrible disease.

The Killing Joke just shows that DC is dumb and not evil.

Like they clearly tried to listen to what fans wanted and clearly go the correct message of "we want Barbara Gorden to be something more than a victim."

And, they tried to do that.

They just really fucked it up.

I really think it's an example of a lack of experience in understanding women more than it is them trying to be misogynist.

That said, it does end up crazy misogynistic, but I think those guys are so just dumb that it comes from a position of ignorance and not evil.

Yeah, I was wondering through the whole Batgirl prologue - "Has Brian Azzarello actually met an adult women?".

It's canon that Batgirl slept with both Dick Grayson and Bruce Wayne in the Timmverse, but it was something that happened in the margins and the working relationship was much better than the one in Killing Joke.

It also raises the implication that Barbara is being punished for, well, basically raping Batman (at first) when the actual action of the Killing Joke starts, rather than her being an innocent bystander.

I found it very distasteful but, yeah, more stupid than evil.

Yeah and the tone is just off for a Killing Joke prologue.

Why not have Barbara kicking ass but then fin dout that the person she bused was her best friend from high school or something and have it take place over 24 hours so that she was "one bad day" but also gets to be strong.

At the time the Killing Joke was published, the Barbara Gordon Batgirl had been retired, I seem to remember. A quick look at Wikipedia seems to show it was that year by editorial fiat.

Your plot works much better (and gives a reason for her to be working without Batman.)
